PostSubject: Racing at the weekend - 20th May   Thu May 18, 2017 9:55 am

We are basketing tonight (Thursday) for this weekend's race from Cholet.

We have joined a new club with a lot more members and not an arse for a president. There has been so much unease over the last month, in the club we originally joined, all because of this one guy.

He seems to think that the club is for his own enjoyment only, and not other peoples. So we changed clubs.

The only drawback is that we now have to basket on a Thursday night and not Friday night, which might make it a bit harder to get our birds fit enough again by Thursday.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get birds ready by Thursday night please. We don't have two race teams, so our birds will have to go week after week, as long as they are fit.

Thanks buddy - it has rained on and off today with a horrendous hail storm about 14:00 hours. I am glad the birds did not have to fly though that.

Gave our young birds their fourth training toss this morning from 20 miles, they did it in 42 minutes. Not bad as the wind was in their faces and it was their first time from this lib point.

Our first young bird race is in two weeks, so we need to get a crack on with training y/b's.

Good luck everyone that is racing this weekend.

We only get 7 young bird races and the season finishes at the end of July!!!

Why you might ask - it's all because France (the WHOLE of France) goes on holiday for the whole off August! You can nothing done, nothing fixed etc etc. It's enough to make you puke!

PostSubject: Re: Racing at the weekend - 20th May   Sat May 20, 2017 12:42 pm

Our birds were up from Cholet at 08:45 hours in a slight head wind. We sent 11 cos that's all we got.

Our first bird back was at 11:31 - but at 11:40 we had the bird that was first last week back, all ripped open down its right side and upper leg.

I have tried my best to sew it up, sprayed it with some antibacterial spray and put it in a box.

Judging by the comments made this week on the forum regarding the healing qualities of pigeons, I would think it won't be too long before it is feeling much better.  I will keep you all informed.

We have still one hen missing but she is normally late back.  It is one of these types of bird that are slow to mature so I am just giving it chances this year.

Any news from anyone else?

Ours were up at 7 am. 205 miles. Clocked 1st one at 10.50 1491 MPM. (About 53 mph) 2nd at 11.00. 3rd 10 mins later then two yearlings, unraced, tossed twice from 20 and 40 miles. Waiting for a call for clock off time. Others dribbling in but do not bother clocking late comers. Lost minutes on all of them. Wind so strong they had a hard time from loft roof to landing board.

What a big shame Darren.

Is its skin damaged at all? What are you going to do with the bird?

Won it by seconds. Will not know about Fed for a week. Just 140 birds sent from the club all but mine widowhood. Good bunch of guys.. Because I have to drive for an hour to get there they suggested I read my own tape and email the results in. Take the tape in the following week. Saves me a lot of gas and time!
