I think ray used these a couple of seasons ago, and in his opinion caused his birds problems.......maybe he will give his views on it .

had 1 in the loft for about a month now david I think its very important for the birds but if they gorge on it they can die the one I have is very compressed so they cant only take a little at any given time ...also the kirpatricks black mineral has a good sodium content
which I also use ...just dab yer finger in the mineral and taste you soon see what I mean ...in previous years breeding the birds always seemed to be searching for something but not this year ...its the salt/sodium they were after

I use horse lick have done for quiet some time I have herd that some get problems with them I havent so cant say to much about that except if you put them in for the first time limite them to one hour then take it out cos if your birds take too much at once it can make them sick or even die if they eat too much what I will say is mine have got it 24/7 mine has had it for years so they take what they need

good post ginger yes I agree with you m8 ...some put table salt in the loft and if the birds have been starved of salt they gorge on it and then you got problems with overdose of sodium

Accidents can/do happen David  Smile  Smile at times when one try's new things etc with our birds. One can always debate the use of any substance type of thing, that we may give our birds. But !!!!! Salt or iodized salt & iodine are part of the building blocks of life & both are a neccessity for the health of our birds, in my view. But neither of them should be abused. I use iodized table salt for the most part in all my lofts 24/7/52 & the vitamin tonic I give the birds also has iodine in it, so between them two etc I have never really seen any cause for alarm over the years.  cheers

Sounds OK to me CC  Smile Smile a lot more minerals in sea salt than plain salt for what I understand. I've never had any qualms also etc about putting a heaped teaspoon of salt in a bucket of water, then into the troughs in the hot weather down here. Differant strokes  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes  Wink  Wink for differant folks. The main thing is, that the birds get a adequate supply of salt in there system.  cheers

Simple enough CC Smile Smile I just wonder how the purist types etc would equate that to the electrolite issue Hal mentioned here today etc. Also, Himalayan salt by my understanding Wink Wink for some, could well be worth a google for the knowledge factor could I suggest here. cheers
