A little bit of physiological fact for you guys:-

Electrolytes only work whilst the muscle is being WORKED and then only for a short time.

It is absolutely pointless giving any Electrolyte to a pigeon when it is already back in the loft.

The time to give electrolytes is when the muscle is working and as we cannot give our pigeons little bottles to drink from on their way home, it is a total waste of time and MONEY giving it to them when they come back from a race, even if the weather is hot or not.

Furthermore - there is NO scientific proof as yet that a pigeon could benefit from electrolytes even if we could give it to them at the right time.

As we all know, the pigeon's metabolism is completely different from ours and no conclusive studies have been done up to now that prove that electrolytes are beneficial to pigeons.

Also what is a fact is that clever money men will definitely take your hard-earned cash for things that pigeons definitely do not need. It is called commerce!

I trust this will help dispel a lot of the myths that are out there.

Absolutely well done Hal

Thank goodness for sensible people  - I have been telling pigeon fanciers for years that electrolytes are not necessary for our birds.

This is the first article written by a vet on this subject, that I have seen in ages.

To be real honest Darren - One can ONLY go by one's experiences at the end of the day.

If you have found that electrolytes have worked for you in the past, NO one can say otherwise.
