| Did a head count. Think down 2. Moved birds over to the Duramax loft. Stock loft now. Opened the adjoining door. Young to next partition. Twice the space. They are happy! Here is something of interest. Checking young bird flights I found that the 9 early ones are only down 3. Older ones much further on. They were only on the dark for a month. |

| Thunderstorms today with clear breaks. Took them to 20 only. They got caught in a heavy rainstorm. Couple more down so far. One thing I did notice. A smokey checker young hen last one weaned arrived with the others and tried to get in the second section. Have a hinged flap (landing board) to cover the dowels. She actually forced it open. She was looking for her cock. Older bird I had moved to the stock loft. She is out of one of my best racers. Moved her over also. Should be interesting.....the young next year from her. I am always looking for signs, different from the norm behavior. But who knows? I do know that one family of blue bars, if they have the yellow eye, really do good. Most anyway. but do not know enough about eye sign to predict 100%. |

| Going to try for another toss today. If it clears up. Race Saturday, 155 miles. Big jump from 35! But I reckon a pigeon puts it,s head down and goes in the direction it thinks home is. Probably a 4 hour race. Supposed to be a nice day Saturday. So will see what transpires. |

| Thanks folks. It is not a question of winning for me, but would be nice! Will ship 15 out of the 36. $150 for 15, $225 for 30. And so on. Many ship a 100. However, first two races are 155 miles for me. So second week 15 more go. Different ones. Week after a 155 and a 205 miler. I look at it this way. I cannot train to 155 miles for $150. They need the experience. May not race after the 3rd race, depends on the moult. What it will do ( I hope ) is show me the better ones. Some will fall by the wayside, so be it. I do not actually need any for next year, or just a few. They will e competing against birds, (the majority) kept in the dark. So may be at a disadvantage that way. No matter. Have to be realistic. In my experience, most good young birds make good old birds. But not always. Have to do a major cull this year. So each has to earn a perch. Not everyone's idea of what to keep but has worked in the past. Good luck to all shipping this week. |

| Same here daz, was hoping to get another toss in before the weekend but the weather is a bit grim, may get a window tomorrow afternoon but we will have to play it by ear, if it looks even a little bit dodgy they won't go, don't even know if we've got a race this week yet |

| Yes David. Corn is high. Which means, believe it or not, the computer has a hard time picking up the satellite signal. Was soybeans last year so no problem. Also corn hides predators. 4 legged ones. First hawk in a while was around today. Or falcon. Just a glimpse of him/her. Probably a young one. .22 is ready if he presents a shot. |

All sounds reasonable to me Hal etc . At our age type of thing, we do what we do the best way we can I suspect & the fanatic/purists types could put foreward what we do is maybe wrong by the text book as such, maybe. But it means little to us now I would put foreward . ***** |

We were supposed to be going for a Sunday race as well, but the weather is really bad for Sunday so our fed have gone back to Saturday, I'd check with your club daz as I don't think it will be a go for a Sunday race |
