anyone use garlic in the pigeons drinking water, cloves, oil etc......? if so why do you use it, what does it do for the pigeons, how long do you leave it in 24/7, a few times a week...? do you give fresh water daily with the same clove or do you top up daily...?
does anyone think garlic makes their birds healthier, or do they think it keeps illness down...?
Many differant views here David on this subject etc & all valid from my perspective depending on ones view as such. For me I was a Hal type guy Garlic puree in a bottle for years etc. Until the Rota virus hit here & I started looking for those little one % things that may have helped combat the issue at the time, because every one was flying blind here if you know what I mean & that even included my favourite Vet also . So right or wrong I went down the garlic road. Big time compared to most pigeon flyers I suspect . I have a plastic container/drum 20/25 litres with a tap which I draw my water from every day type thing which I now add half a galic bulb into each week as such. Now me being me I thought of the deep litter issue & the benefits it can have if used in the right way & adapted it to my C/D 9 months I have not cleaned it out etc & I have now reached the stage where it has turned into a jelly type film on the side walls with no ill effect to my birds that I can see as they are flying 2/3 hours a day here & when I toss them in the most dangerousc type conditions "Always strong head winds" they do the tosses in as good a time if not better than before the virus issue came on the scene with very few losses except my first toss & I had a fair idea what the out come was going to be on that day with what my exspectations were back then. So, waffle finished & to answer here in my view is Garlic good/bad I know not but if you want chalkie type wattles & you want birds capable of flying through a brick wall type of thing, it may just be worth a try .

Ad Scherlackens has written a article on the pros and cons of garlic which is a fair assessment. Me I do use garlic at times but I use the powder from the horse shop on there food. I think I don't mind garlic in my food but I wouldn't want to drink garlic water with a meal so why would the birds. That's just my opinion but check out ads article.

Could be so for some O/S "nasty taste" but from my experience etc what may appear ab-normal at first turns quickly into normal after a while as such & I've not noticed any differance with my birds on the consumption side with what they drink. One little note thou I've found when I give them there weekly bi-carb soda drink with the garlic, consumption go'es up Big time on the rictor scale.
