| The ACTUAL fertiisation time of the egg/embryo happens a few minutes (Around 3 or 4 minutes) BEFORE the egg is laid.
So, you could say - you should bring your birds together around 5 days before the full moon.
BUT - my questions is WHY do you want to bring your birds together on or near a Full Moon.
What are you trying to achieve?
There are MANY other favourable times during the lunar cycle to bring pairs together. Depending on what you are trying to achieve.

| from my point of view phil if I could breed more cocks than hens It would be ideal but I just cant see the relevance with the moons cycle but maybe that's largely down to lack of understanding unfortunately I don't have time at present to study it but will when I get a few hours to delve into it no doubt theirs plenty info out their but for now I am just picking up the info you have provided ...thanks |

| Hear are two real life experiences to give you some hope.
I have found out this from a very well known French flyer. He paired 15 pairs of birds 10 days before a full moon. Every single egg was fertile out of the 15 pairs. 6 pairs out of the 15 pairs laid exactly on the full moon. All the eggs hatched, and all 12 babies were male/cocks.
This guy specialises in late-breds. So they never saw a training basket in the year of their birth. After a bit of selection, over the new year period, he was left with 10 cocks. He raced them all through the whole old bird racing programme even though they were only yearlings and had never been trained until the year after their birth. At the end of the season he still had the 10 left so he did exactly the same the following year and raced the whole old bird programme.
To date, he still has all 10 cocks left. I don’t know what prizes they won but I do know that not one single bird spent a night out.
Another fancier we have heard of always pairs his birds up on or around 2 February on what is known as a rising moon, that is, between a half moon and a full moon, if he wants males. Or on a waning moon (that is from the full moon to the half moon) if he wants females.
Also, a tip for you - if you look at the moon and it looks like a C it is not Coming, it is Going. If it looks like a D it is Coming.
Having said all of what I have said - DON'T get too bogged down on ONLY looking at the Full Moon. There are MANY other options open to us all.
Phil

| Surely one cannot rely on the moon phases to get a fancier what he they desires? There are just too many variables. I have had 2 cocks hatch in one nest numerous times. One flies excellent other is a dummy. Do not know what the moon was at that particular time, but all or most, were staggered mating's. Birds with eleven flights. Feathered legs etc,. White eye dark eye. There is no criteria to my mind anyway, than to select birds from proven winners to mate together. Usually they do produce winners but not always. However if moon mating's will enhance a pigeons performance, or their young's performance, then by all means try it. I would. |
