I know pigeon racing in on the decline as we all know but have you ever thought of how many fanciers are in partnership. .say for instance on my club there are 13 members flying as such but really we have 17 if you split them separately, which obviously sounds better ..anyway there are more partnership now then say 15 years ago if you understand where I am coming from .so really it's not as bad as I thought it was but I do know in 10 years it will be really bad but I was just sitting thinking about this ..do you know what I am saying ?

If folks live close by should be the way to go. Save 50% of the expenses.

Yes ray i do when you read in the homing world that the fancy is in a decline they are talking about individual fanciers in the main but what about members that go into partnership with each other sometimes 3 or 4 partners together then it doesn't look so bad less loft numbers same membership

It's good if it keeps people in the sport but what I disagree with is when sellers advertise and say they are top fliers in a club with 20 members and there's 4 or 5 of them in partnership, then other members in other partnership too, you find out that there's really only 8 or 10 lofts and some of those only race now and again. Sounds better if you advertise yourself top dog against 20 members than the truth that your flying against a small number of lofts most weeks.
Same thing when someone gets on about being 1st against 150 birds when they sent 50 or 60. To me they're 1st beating @100 birds from other lofts, surely you can't count beating yourself? You can't race against yourself.

I don’t think costs are that bad, if costs are too high fanciers can keep less pigeons.
I race North and birdage isn’t too bad, but birdage to send South is to dear for me.

I know where your coming from Barnie but you always include your own birds in any result as that bird has won against say 260 birds , you can't take your own 50 or so off but if you are saying g to beat 10 lofts that's different if you know what I mean

It is not cheap anymore. Costs me about $1000 a year. Even if I only fly one ob race and a year and one young bird race. I do not vaccinate or medicate or would be more.

I flew in partnership with my older brother in the 1980`s, it made it easier with the cost......but for me it was the know how and organisation of the management that was the main thing, I was basically the loft boy cleaning out and learning as I went..........my "apprentiship" was cut short when we had to sell up and pack in.

30 years later now on my own, hence I know very little about pigeons........ Razz Razz Razz lol! lol!

Spin the bottle which ever way etc & most would agree the sport in general is in decline. Here Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes those that should be into horse racing as such instead of pigeon racing are making some bad, bad decisions on the whole. On average I suspect, pigeon racing was for the working type man. Wife/partner, morgage, 6 kids Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes education, food on the table 24/7 Smile Smile car & holidays etc with the pocket money/scaps Smile Smile at the end for the pigeons, hopefully Wink Wink. Now, here  Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad compared to the old days one requires to take out a morgage to cover all costs to fly at the highest level & this means very few of the young & yuppy brigade types are coming into the sport to fly here sadly. Rant over Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes.
