She is well, well known here. I'd trade hearing her on the radio over Taylor Swift anyday. Believe Susan has lots of albums out now

I have seen that video David. Good film. It would be handy if we got a little faster internet service though! Slow here

I've got a question on pigeon racing that is very much general.
Why is the sport seemingly on the decline in more traditional/ historic areas of the world? Or am I mistaken? I can't seem to get my mind around any one reason.

not really sure rom, could be a number of reasons.......maybe cost, also maybe young people are more likely to be sat in front of a play station or computer game, than playing out side and being involved with people, also if I look at the club I`m in at the moment, most of these fanciers were in thee club when I packed in, in 1986.....yes there are a couple of different ones, but most are older men and there are no young people starting up with pigeons.

ive re joined the club maybe around 5 - 6 years ago, and in that time I think there has only been approx. 3 new members........ Question Question Question

I was afraid that was the case. The video on spring hill FL kind of worried me at first. Those guys pour the chemicals to the birds there. Can't imagine treating birds every week rather rhey need it or not.

Never watched the Spring Hill video. I am not averse to medication at all. Heck, used enough on the pigs we had here. Vaccinations, all the other treatments that vets say your animals will die if not done. Or not thrive. It is a protocol that must be followed. Right or wrong. But with conception rates, growth rates, one cannot deviate. Vets make money, drug companies make money. Farmers may be. I have to assume it is basically the same with pigeons. Treat or suffer the consequences. Unless one goes to a vet regularly, one does not know what the persons birds have,  that is detremental to the birds health. Cheaper to buy the standard meds and vaccines as a preventative. Perhaps not cheaper in the long run. But have found that fliers pigeons in towns and cities have more health problems than those in rural areas. Off street birds or some members birds infecting others? Do not know.
If a bird needs treating then it should be done for a specific ailment. Not blanket medication..

I plan on sending droppings in next week. Other than that, I will worm them, and treat for ailments my novice eye can see. If I have to I will beat on Jim's door. I talked to my vet, he would charge me pet individual fee instead of a livestock visit. 40 bucks a bird. So far so good on health. The only other pigeons they have come into contact with are three different wild pigeons. They trapped with my birds, and didn't notice for a day or two.
Have you ever had wild pigeons trap with yours ?

Wild pigeons? Yes!! I encourage them! One young wild one came in last Spring. It was in and out with mine for 4 weeks. Then disapeared. Whatever bugs it passed on in the drinker did not affect mine. Probably passed on natural immunity. Year before same thing, but two young of mine died. Others fine. Benefit.

I didn't scrape, or change their water for a day, all three times. I did however kill them immediately. I probably shouldn't have, but after that I found where the wild birds were and eliminated them. Mostly because we don't need everybody mad at pigeons. (Three rifles behind every door). My birds are always flying or in the loft for that reason. Maybe sometimes perched on my shop! Jim did give me 10 white birds in the early fall, but his loft is only a quarter mile as the crow flies from mine.

Spring hill is a world away from your situation Rom Smile Smile. they have 100 odd flyers in a square mile type of thing. You have the odd 200 mile round trip to find your closet club there by my understanding bounce bounce for when you basket your birds on race day & you join up with them to race & to help cover your costs etc.

Simple answer Rom Smile Smile people just want the easy easy life style of today etc. Spin the bottle anyway you like Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes pigeons are time consumming & hard work as such & on average, they just don't fit in with normal these days from my perspective.
