Yes the red had two eggs but I stepped on one. 3 more pairs of reds on the floor, hatched and banded. 15 boxes and they choose the floor. Good in a way. They will eat etc right away. Cocks will feed any that want fed. Never had a scalping problem yet. DE powder and straw on top. Dry deep litter. Looks unsightly but works well for me.

I'm thinking of putting a couple boxes on the floor with hay. I've already got two pair hanging out on the floor like they want to nest. Same as last fall.
Hal, I was told to use our local hay, instead of straw. Somethings about mites in the straw? Ever hear of this?

No mites in the straw. Use DE. Hay is not good. Many years since I tried it though.
