about first week in April....no set date dont like them body moulting feathers they have just grew.
like them to be youngbirds before they are made into teenagers....
let the hormones settle a little before whacking them...

are you all about winning with ybs fw, or like some who prefer old bird racing, and let the ybs mature rather than thrash them....?

Not really bothered about yb racing...but i have new pigeons to try..
Middle distance..so if im going to race them they wont be last and they will go 400mile as yearlings 400 is being done well over 40mph most years so need abit speed.... study

My young will go 320. Previous years went to 380. Not a question of thrashing them. If they are healthy and flying good thet get sent. Does them no harm in following years, I have found.

True Hal Smile Smile walk in the park scenario bounce bounce from my perspective. On average a 7/8 hr fly maybe & so, not even a days work as I like to put it here etc. cheers

Yes. First time there, same as any race point, they head for home. They do not know how far. They give it all they have. They either get exhausted and slow down or quit or keep coming until they recognise a landmark. Must perk them up and they try harder.
Now. Just my thoughts. Why coddle them as young ones? Put them to the test. If one is scared with losing a pigeon from a super pair or expensive new bird or birds then do not send them. To the distance. However, like usually begets like. Shipping the young sorts out the good from the average. Hold young back and one may end up with too many unproven young pigeons. Have 15 here myself not raced as young birds. This year they go all the way. 400 being the longest.
