not sure really phil, i bought 33 young birds off a fancier who was packing in a couple of years ago, nice looking birds but ive not raced any off them my self yet, i do think i bought too many, should have just bought a few pairs.... scratch study

best read results and see who is winning, with what breed............plenty of birds for sale out there, but not all good.

strain is not important really just pick a family or loft that is doing well at the distance you want to race if possible go local as you will know a local successful loft will have birds that can fly into the area,if not possible then go to a loft that races well off the line of flight ...earlier this year I purchased a few off a loft that have been flying well into Scotland and doing well in one loft races but its always a game of chance what you purchase ...a element of trust that yer getting what you pay for pirat

Best to go to a local fancier who wins out of turn and get some late breds he/she will not sell rubbish or their credibility will go down and you can always get replacements and advice, you will also be aware of the local competition, if you buy from outside your area you will not know under what circumstances the winners have won by.

Regards.

Probably someone who has been top flier or rarely out the top 3 fliers in their fed for several years also with a number of section wins or many top section positions in the UNC. Wouldn't care what strains.

ive often heard the advise, "go to a local flyer doing well", and its good advise......but do members really think a good local flyer would let you have the same birds as they are racing....? i dont think i would to be honest, i wouldnt let a local flyer who would possibly compete against me have the same pigeons as my self.

just my opinion, i may me wrong. scratch study

some say louella are no good, personally ive no idea if they are now, but in the 1980`s we bought quite a lot of birds off them when they were called masarella`s....bought ybs and obs and they won for us straight away, bought janssens, verheys, lefebre dhaenens and deny`s brothers birds, all were good, and won for us.

I would give Tumley stud a call and have a good chat with them, they go out of theyre way to help you, and they have several strains that are winning now, so you can be confident when picking sprint, middle, long distance or all rounders that you’ll have pigeons that can compete now, and are not out of strains that we’re winning last in the 1980s.

Also formula one studs frans zwols are winning out of hand in my area. (Essex)

Misty you are right but the biggest thing is do the top fanciers want to race against there own pigeons no mate they don't want to.

I personally wouldn't buy from local fanciers as they won't sell you the goods that's an old saying that they will as Don said they don't want to get beaten by their own birds I would always go to someone who wins year in year out and doesn't come from my area as for late breads their no good for 18 months to breed from defiantly no good for racing to much trouble

If I had to buy birds I would go to a fancier, local or otherwise whom I could trust.
I have been beaten by my own birds I gave away. Young off them anyway. Different club but same Fed. I do not give away junk to fliers. Better the meat market. You sell junk locally every one soon knows about it. And vice versa. Proof is in the pudding. Guy buys birds locally, and they do well, he can charge a higher price. Benefits all. Again, you have to have trust in some one to spend money.

Sounds reasonable to me Boosey Smile Smile. Read an article on the internet about a flyer having success at the distance type races etc. Full of praise for his Tumley birds as such. Which for me Wink Wink suggests the odds may be in your favour, if you got onto the right ones there. cheers
