| To have to give up a lifetimes sport through both pigeon lung and the inability to give your feathered friends the attention they have always received and deserved IS heart breaking, but when you look back at all the pleasure you have had, then one should be grateful, although I still look out of the window and hope an old favourite turns up.
But what breaks my heart far more is to see the youth of today with a wire in their ear, an I pad in their hand and not a cue abut reality, they will never have a blue thumb from straightening nails and knocking orange boxes etc; apart to improve their loft, nor climb drain pipes to recover a fly away who did not know how lucky it was etc;
But what annoys me above all else is the manner the RPRA has not bother to follow up any suggestions put forward to improve the sport for all fanciers.
They did nothing about the Raptors until it was too late, over 45 years ago my late friend Steve mooted the possibility of involving schools by the means of videos etc; Had this been done the possibility is that we would now be seeing the benefit, those involved being involved now being in their 50s.
I proposed that no one should serve on the Council for more than 4 years in total which would have given the chance of new brains being involved and not what has actually happened, a set of self centred people who have no respect for the Rules nor the sport in general been involved, some for over 45 years.
With the Hall report, which confirms much of what I have always said should give the sport a fair chance of being improved, however, having seen the proposals for the RPRA AGM if some of the earlier propositions are not adopted then some of the following will not be possible to pass.
This will not have escaped the notice of Old Brigade, it will be very interesting to see what transpires.
Regards. |

| Pigeon survey on another well read site. Losing or not attracting young fliers. What's the biggest cause of the decline of pigeon racing?
Higher expenses and cost's (23%, 410 Votes) Young people not interested (19%, 333 Votes) Poor sport management (greed, fighting between members, lack of leadership, club politics, etc.) (19%, 328 Votes) Poor marketing and National PR for the sport (12%, 208 Votes) Change of laws in towns and cities (society) (10%, 176 Votes) Higher hawk, falcon and bird of prey population's (9%, 162 Votes) Not enough information for new fanciers (6%, 113 Votes) Outdated (technology, keeping up with changing times etc. ) (2%, 32 Votes)
