found this old racing video from 1987 interesting, notice how the lofts are all in the same area..........then it goes on to show the pits etc.

Did two years down the mine, experience I would not have missed, but not one for life, my father and elder brother worked down the pit, my brother ending up a Cheif Production engineer having been paid for going to day release and then colledge to gain his qualifications.

In general the miners were well looked after and were a close knit community and as a very young lad I enjoyed mixing with them regarding our feathered friends, in fact I went into partnership with one called Philip Yorks when I was 16 and until I decided mining was not for me.

The sport today is nothing like it was then in any way shape or form and not for the better, either for the pigeons or the sport in general.

Regards.

I think this is what we were say the other week misty, about no new blood coming into pigeons......it was people like miners who had a community where sons would follow fathers into keeping pigeons, along with other trades which have also been known for having pigeon men among them.

as communities disappear so do pigeon men.

That's about the Miler racers all housed in lofts behind the club house

Remember a few fanciers from my neck off the woods going up north and watching the milers race, a few off the fanciers brought back some milers to cross into there own birds but nothing worked out to good as never heard off any winners
