PostSubject: Training starts tomorrow.   Thu Apr 26, 2018 1:04 am

Fog and rain last few days. Couple of clear days ahead. Racing starts on Sunday, May 6. Only 115 miles. Bad weather forecast for previous day. First toss will be 20 odd miles. Basically for yearlings, never raced. Next day 20 again. Then if possible longer. If not should be enough anyway. They are loft flying for a long time.
Racer in the stock loft. Checked his wing today. 4th flight growing. Had eggs in December. All eggs etc out today. Some older racers on first eggs. Some yearlings also. Have 6 young out of the yearlings. Will see what transpires.

Best of luck with your training Hal.

Our club has its' third race this weekend - still only a hundred or so miles, but the expected weather is not so good.

All the best to ALL that are training.

Good headwind so let them go at 25 miles or so. All back, doing the victory lap. Then flew again. 40 plus minutes. Had to call them in finally. Young birds out now. Finally they are starting to roam a little. The older ones.
Rain tomorrow later in the day. Train old ones again. Morning. Hate catching them all!!!

What a marvelous improvement there would be in the sort if the pigeon could train the fancier, after all the fancier only thinks he/she knows what is best.

Regards.

Misty. Yes. One more shot and as long as they are flying good open loft basically, they are ready. I think so anyway. Hoping that is what they are trying to tell me!
Pic of a door on one loft. Place basket on plastc stool and put them in thru the door.

Cannot beat open loft, would like to know just how many miles they fly in a day on open loft as opposed to a couple of hours of enforced flying.

I feel that going up and down from loft to surroundings affects the fitness far better than anything else and maybe, in my case with the pigeons for 14 hours a day.

Away from pigeons Hal, how is things on the home front?.

Regards.

All is well so far. Took my daughter in for a liver biopsey today. Wife is also getting tested for other stuff. But what can one do? Just support sick people as much as one can. Try and tell them if they get panic or anxiety attacks just take deep breaths and remember, they never hurt you physically. Face them head on! Laught at them!!

Good article here, pigeons.

Pleased to hear that things are not getting any worse and hopefully matters will improve considerably, people laugh, but I can assure you faith can move mountains, I used to think that if you believed and had faith then you and those of a like mind would not have to suffer any ills.

But on reflection the wrong ones would jump on the band wagon for all the wrong reasons, and often illness can be a test of your faith.

The article is interesting, what I cannot understand is the 1st drop and then the velocities.

Regards.

Skipped through several of the articles and the same topics have been discussed time and time again, and for every fancier who agrees with a certain method or treatment there will be just as many who are as successful who refute it.

When considering success you also have to consider advantage, and many so called champions have enjoyed a large amount of same.

The most successful fancier is the one who gets far more enjoyment than the effort put in and winning a race against the odds is far better than buying it.

Regards.

If one is not out to enjoy racing, just to make, money then it is different. I suspect the big money makers, selling birds etc, often advocate systems, feeds, they do not use. False info keeps the competition down. Not all of course. Thunderstorm moved in did not train today. Yearling bb cock insists he wants to be in the YB section. He can manipulate himself to get in there!. Put him back many times. Put more screening on the traps. He was out and pissed off. Opened it for a minute and he went right in. That bird has character. He can stay there. Young and him were out later, till almost dark. Few races and numbers reduced the door will be opened so the young can get in to section 2. 8 x 8 with nest boxes. No rigid regime here. Meantime will put a box or two in the young bird section. Eventually (your method) old and young together. Birds are happy they will race home.
