This from another site on Facebook.
"Gurbir Brar It all comes down to systems. One thing that might work for one person may not work for the next person for a number of reasons: numbers, location, climate, density of BOP in an area, etc. I've been following Tom Makowecki for a number of years now on Facebook and his birds are always in the thick of things battling it out till the end. Lately I've read a lot about Seaman Family Loft birds and the bloodline they're working with is also doing well. I have a very good example: Mark Caudwell from the U.K. He flies the staf van reet bloodline only and he hasn't flown a bird himself since 2004. However, every year he gives or sells birds to other fanciers and every year he has countless Club and federation winners. What he does though is he buys back his OWN birds that fly well for the other guys (usually for more than he sold them for). So this way he has been able to continue his bloodline and it is still winning today even though he has not flown a bird in over 10 years. You need to bring back the proven fliers if you do not fly yourself in order to guarantee the continuous of your lineage"

If there was a fool proof method then there would be no point.

It is all the imponderables and the necessity to try different approaches that make the sport what it is.

You can have directly opposite approaches that both gives satisfactory results.

When the olr were first being discussed by the RPRA and the money prizes discussed and the manner the winner decided I think one of the replies said that in America the first ten birds received the same amount of prize money.

This was in reply to my objection to the manner the winner was decided, ie. first through a bob wire.

Regards.

that's spot on hal, mark Caudwell does indeed buy back his birds which have raced well.....I noticed he had posted details up this year of the ones he had bought, and obviously he has got the right idea to keep his bloodlines going.
