I think Hall, that a pigeon knows the best means of getting what is right and wrong for it's welfare if given a natural life where everything is available and will only take artificial products when there is no alternative.

And would never touch all the commercial rubbish if there was a natural alterative, if they are fastened up 20 hours a day and can only have what is put in front of them ???

Me thinks some fanciers pigeons go fielding when they think they are flying and get themselves a cure for the rubbish some fanciers put down their throats.

Regards.

exactly why its essential to provide for them in the loft else problems will arise ,minerals ad lib and good food 365 days have to say never had a problem with the birds going fielding but no doubt they do when they lack something in their diet

A little ACV or citric acid in the water twice a week can help prevent yeast infections.

Misty says 'Me thinks some fanciers pigeons go fielding when they think they are flying and get themselves a cure for the rubbish some fanciers put down their throats'.

Was a time when 'Fielding' was encouraged. Never ever frowned upon that's a fact.
Remember an 'Ole Boy' say he kept some old stagers that went fielding ... To encourage / show the y/b's the way!

we used to take the mole hills from the golf course where we toss but birds were never that bothered on it I suppose they must be getting all that they need ,but they are rather fond of the dandelions in front the loft so we let them grow ,much to the annoyance of the wife Razz

I used to place the Molehills 2c c-3 times a week on a tray in garden... they loved it.
Then I'd put back in sack and replace lol. Also sometime had access to spring water.
