Something for nothing !!!!.

Had a call this afternoon here, from my club secretary etc informing me a vaccine for the Rota virus issue may just be around the corner so to speak maybe. How much I inquired as such it's going to be free he said as the club will cover the expense type of thing but how much will the club be up for, don't know & will it be a 1 or 2 jab option when it arrives, don't know & will we have to sign a stat declaration form to say we have done it like the PMV issue I asked. Don't know just be thankful he said as it will be a limited issue & you have been chosen as one of the lucky ones so just be thankful & stop asking stupid type questions.

Appears a bit odd to me, Knackered, what if a fancier has 12 pigeons and another hundreds??.

What good is only vacinating some and not all??.

Our featherd friends will soon be having more treatments preventative and curative that gives the providers a very good income.

In doing so there will be even worse problems arrising because the little beggars causing all the trouble have more brains than most fanciers.

I know I know all part of the circus environment etc Misty . Now 12 pigeons not likely here in my neck of the woods. Think Big time as the chook farmer types have around a thousand birds in some places after breeding & it's 2 jabs for the PMV 1 for Pox & 1 or 2 for the Rota issue. Oh happy days I say & for the average type flyer here, they may just win enough to buy a packet of peanuts on average .

The thing is with all medication there are side effects in particular in humans.

I had a bad hip and needed a new one, I was too frightened to have the operation for three years, and took paracetamol every day for the pain.

The pain got so bad I had the operation for a new hip which was more painless than having a tooth
out

But taking the paracetamol had an adverse effect on my liver which the doctor had not pointed out but was actually on the possible side effects in the container holding the tablets.

And the same applies to all medication, unfortunately, too many such products are used ad lib by many fanciers and the majority ofvtodays pigeonsare flying disasters through over medication netc;

The only way back would be to stop all medication and start affresh with those that survived, if there were any.

Stop all medications I keep saying the same/similar about all the imports that have come in here when they lifted the import embargo Misty around 30 odd years ago etc. 99% are total rubbish from my perspective & most flyers finish up getting their fingers burnt on average but they still keep buying/coming unfortunately I'm  .

Preventions bah and humbug. They are certainly a cause for very much regards the state out pigeons are in. Super drugs, Must haves etc. are mainly only to fill the pockets of the advertisers. 'Named' fanciers have a good season and put their name to such and such. Many and most l;ikely to something that they had never heard of till asked if they would like a few quiddies to spout as such.
I could, and many on here could build up a poor looking cull to look superb, especially if 'brushed up' though could have a problem fly up t the top perch. Money means there is and always will be unscrupulous con and advertsthose taking the mick and the money of the gullible. That is one part of human Nature that will never change or be cured. That's a fact.

rota virus is nothing new its been around for years its probably mutated ...same as pmv yet the vaccines the same strain ,it will be free this time oz but will it be next time...maybe it will become a annual affair like the pmv maybe a dual vaccine.paratyphoid,pmv,herpes,rota vaccines where will it end ,I read on another forum of suspicions of the virus in the uk which would be no surprise with reports of rota in Europe already.from my point of view the pmv vaccine helps the immune system react ,kick in as it were but after that its no more vaccines ,some even vaccinate twice for pmv as ybs stating its gives super immunity but a sound bird is just that atb

New problems will continue to arise until it becomes clear that to treat animals in a unsuitable manner relative to their constitution will result in a continual number of problems.

It is also probable that they will increasingly be a bigger individual problem.


Can see the day if matters go on when actually treating the pigeons will be the most costly part of the sport.


Can also see the day when one problem will come along that solves the problem, 99% will suffer a bad end
it will only be then that those left will be capable of surviving and if left alone continue as nature intended.

Advertisers/con men know a local Daz that apparently has an order already, from China etc for 200,000 odd shots for the Rota virus injection as such. Could just be the reason I suggest, the supply is going to be short at my end so to speak .

We actually have reached that crazy stage here Misty to a degree. Super health programs on tap by the local type Vets along with the Pox injection. Pmv injection & the Rota issue but the craziest part is here we have a white elephant hanging over our heads I'm now, with the guru types in charge spending $150,000 odd "borrowed money" on an extension/fit out at our main head quarters for 30 odd flyers there at the best on a good day. Last weeks race       15 turned up     & they were all in a room unfortunately, about the size of a soccer pitch     type of thing.  

Looking through the results each week the majority of clubs have an average of 6 or 7 sending each week.

Later the average will be down to 5.

Some with 3 members.

To my mind, Knackered, this will not improve but as nature takes it's toll can only become a worse problem as clubs will no longer be a viable proposition.

I along with others have suggested clubs join together as one club but some have done so and others are too far apart to do so.

If the sport was clear of all the present problems it would not change the facts regarding the lack of the present day humans (if you could class many as humans) having no interest in anything that you could not be pressing buttons on or something stuffed in your ear.

There are still some dedicated genuine fanciers but they are the ones most likely to call it a day.

Wish I could think of something good ton say regarding the sport but you have at some time to face reality.

Suggestions mostly fall on deaf ears unfortunately I've found Misty on average over the years. We have what we call our National race next week here from 400 odd miles. At least 3 different trucks will be on site from the different Feds. Capacity 17/18000 birds & we will be lucky to have 2000 odd birds in the race I suspect.

I honestly believe, or did till last 15 / 20 years that ALL lofts have had some real good and classy pigeons... but most fanciers didn't know and couldn't fly a kite - Mr dad a typical example. Most pigeons earned their perch and nest box. Most years the main problem was what had to go.... Now bits of paper on walls from unscrupulous scoundrels mean that too many lofts are not only breeding incestuous culls, but are even breeding from the more incestuous culls as they think- unbelievably - that mother to son etc. breeds the genes and pigeon. It don't! At best ONCE and NOT for flying them! They are for breeding an out cross to race their' youngsters. then the fact is most by far breed culls!
