| I've got a pair of YB's ready in about a week gladly offer to contributing members of the forum. These are full of fed, section and NEHU open winners in their breeding. Not several generations back either, up to date winners. No fancy pedigrees just first class racers in the make up. All I ask is if anyone would like them then they pay carriage. |

| If there was more effort put into promoting the fact that any youngster could become (or anyone for that matter) involved in the sport with little costs involved with fanciers offering free pigeons and advice the sport may have a chance.
Trouble is the mentality now is that if you do not pay thousands for pigeons you can only have inferior ones, when in fact the opposite is the truth, and you can have a life time of pleasure even if you win nothing.
Hope someone takes up the offer and wins out of turn with them.
Also hope if they do the owner does not give them a fancy pedigree.
Regards. |

| Sadly, due to the declining numbers, there has never been such an excellent time for a newbie to come into the sport. Such great offers from the likes above. Yes and many more on this site and others. I feel, the urge, or need to breed and have big teams is a boon - often - to such great offers. Yes, don't get me wrong, over the years very many did, in fact, help others. Brought some into the sport and nurtured them. They gave time and money and birds — no two ways about that. True, though, too many did take advantage of and exploit some.
I said, on another site, not so long ago, that the enticement to have, and breed from such, and then give them to good causes is paramount. Many a deserving newbie, or charity. Even a helping hand to some fanciers to supplement their losses, or better their stock.
Great offer Colin. They will be snatched up and rightly so.
temptation arouses... But you know this very morning sitting here and watching the wild birds and pigeons feeding in the garden I said to Joyce the inevitable finalisation. 'Joyce' I said 'I miss the pigeons so very much … but you know, I am quietly glad I decided to end my love and joy.
I sit here, out of breath, recalling how life revolving around the pigeons had become a hard chore, and one of not able to do right by them. Not had the nerve to visit a loft as of yet... But feel I'd like to see the national birds home this week -end. Who knows, may well do. So, after months of accepting (as such), that I have finally accepted that decision, that, that is it. Heart willing but the flesh is weak … or unable, I guess. So now, I am thinking of starting another chapter — one of taking up offers to visit lofts etc. |

| Know the feeling Daz, out of breath just thinking about doing something never mind doing anything.
However, there is always much to be thankful for and many in worse positions, like yourself I have had our feathered friends from being very young and seen many changes, the majority of which have been for the benefit of the fancier rather than the pigeon.
On reflection and taking into consideration prevailing circumstances I doubt very much if at eight under the present circumstances I would contemplate making a loft out of orange boxes,( with the help of dad) and give a lifetime to the sport.
It was all the little problems and odd situations not to mention the little bundle of feathers that made the sport what it used to be, sadly as money and the win at any cost brigade became the norm, along with commercialism all that has gone out the window and the sport is on it's last legs.
Still miss the pigeons but very grateful for the well over 70 years of pleasure they gave me, not many people can say the same today.
Still look out hoping to see an old friend return but as the years fly by the chance gets less. we both know things to come will be better
Have friends with studs that I could visit but not the same as having your own.
All the best Daz, roll on.
Regards. |

| Never sold a young or old bird for over 20 years. I give them away. People win with them. As you are all probably aware, having to cut down drastically. But here is a slight twist. Have a white hen stray, American bird. Plus a red stray, American bird also. So far they are producing good ones!! Tried to contact the owners last year but no success. Also two strays last year from Canadian top fliers (big studs) who did not want them back.So far breeding good. Whats in a pedigree then? Just irks my curiosity has to how a stray bunch will perform. So trying it! At the expense of some of my birds. |

| Good Post Misty. Still have hopes, and dreams... and a great goal of a better future. Hal, you are proving what I, and Misty, have always said and believed. I often said on a site. 'If anyone gets a stray bird of a Red / Mealy or grizzle, especially, a red grizzle, where the owner(s) doesn't want back, I would love to transfer them to me'. This was to prove, to my self and possibly others, that it would be great to get birds that you liked the look off. Neighbour's too, that would breed good performance birds. Indeed many a stray won races and bred winners. The town and buildings are full of 'Pedigree and performance - on paper - birds. Often, indeed very often, many a fancier pays a high price for 'Culls and conns'. I not only believe that, but but know so . But! Far from being related pigeons, it would add much to any loft in constitutions and immunities. Never had anyone take me up on that though! Yes, several offered my such birds from their stock/ race team etc. But, with thanks, this was always turned down, because it would defeat the very goal I wished to achieve and to prove a point I was trying to make. |

| Good to see. Ah if only I.... Yes I get a twinge of sadness seeing as such. Have had to accept the golden days- if any lol - have gone. Now getting strength of thoughts to visit lofts, and even watch them home for others. |
