| I feel for you Hal. No good time for that, especially mid season. Mind I bet you will - having to sit on the side lines - many parts of the game and maybe improvement for next season.
One problem now maybe too many left season's end.
Ani road, get well mate, all the best. |

| Yes too many left. Called a friend. 35 or so to go. Free. Meat whatever.. Some stock, some racers. Have to go by performance what little there is with yearlings. If in doubt parents influence the choice. Never easy.. Has to be done. |

| Yeah. Always told to reduce before the moult, as they all will look great after.
How times have changed eh. Back up to the early seventies, Mr Basket tried to do the job … yet even about 12 pairs in most lofts, many had to make way for a nest box or perch. I fail to see the that progress has been made. Now too many bred to counteract losses for starters, most from inferior and Conned bought stock. In the late 50's early 60's there were about 150.000 fanciers SENDING far less that the 23.000 are sending most weeks. Go figure. Time was if not on loft perch race night, would be next morning or even in the week... Many sent if back on the Tuesday and won on the Saturday. Surely the wise fanciers learned. .. . |

| When a fancier can send 90 pigeons to a National race ????????.
Not in my opinion pigeon racing as it should be.
Too many changes to the detriment of both the sport and the pigeons health has taken place during the past 50 years.
Nothing to do with anyone else how many pigeons a fancier keeps or sends to a race but has to be taken into consideration with all the other implications.
I found knowing the individual pigeons perculiar personalities was enough to get the best out of them in all respects, and you only needed a few good ones to win your share and to know them as individuals.
Too much commercialism and fanciers advertising products that have no real contribution other than to ruin the immune system resulting in numerous inferior pigeons being bred year in year out.
Always knew every pigeon as an individual.
Regards.

| One well known national winner sends 700 birds each week... split into 3 clubs granted. But when you look at the 'Amount Sent' on a National race results it is often dearer to send than the winnings ... Like another who also sent over 200 pigeons to a national. The quip was vast. Not least ' We need a conveyor belt from van to clock setting'. So it doesn't take a lot of common sense to realise how they make money each season eh! |
