PostSubject: Malcolm Moore of Leeds....   Malcolm Moore of Leeds.... EmptyThu Jun 18, 2009 1:22 pm

Hi, would like to tell members about Malcolm, a fellow fancier who lives a couple of miles away from me and who also has just restarted after a 20 year break. Malcolm is 71 years old and is recovering from a recent operation, but this has not stopped him building his very impressive lofts and breeding 14 ybs which he intends racing this season.
Malcolm has already had his team of ybs to Barnsley several times and intends to race them on the natural system but is aware he might not finish the program owing to the moult.

Malcolm Moore of Leeds.... Malcolm4-1

Malcolm Moore of Leeds.... Malcolm1

The bigger loft on the left is where Malcolm flies his ybs to,the attached aviary is where Malcolm does his breeding and the birds also live in here all through the winter. The yb team were born in the aviary in january and in general the birds live outside all year round, whatever the weather.
The aviary is stone paved and contains 16 nestboxes, while the yb loft has 40 perches.Malcolm is a great believer in ventilation but does say the birds do take a little longer to condition due to the being virtually living outside. As previously said the ybs will be racing on the natural system this season and some of them have already dropped 2 secondaries and feels he will be lucky to get many competative races out of them.

Malcolm Moore of Leeds.... Pigeons

Now that the ybs have had several training tosses from Barnsley they will be jumped to 30 miles next week, one point of interest is that Malcolm likes to train his birds at dusk and has had a lot of success this way.The yb team consists of Marriots,Kenyons and a few Janssens which he hopes to blend togeather next year.

Malcolm Moore of Leeds.... Resized3

Malcolm has been round pigeons for many years and is often viewed as radical in his thinking, and is well known for his research into dispelling thearies and myths that have grown arround pigeons, some of which have been published over the years. His latest research was into the practice of pulling and cutting of primary flights in america as it is widely undertaken there,it is also very popular in asia too.Malcolm was able to back up his research with the Veterinary College of London,The Soc. of Ornithologists and the American Wildlife Assoc in Texas.

Malcolm Moore of Leeds.... Malcolm2

Would just like to wish Malcolm success when he starts racing his ybs this season, and would like to thank him for giving his permission to do this article about him,his lofts and garden are a credit to him ill sure you will agree.

I know Malcolm has been trying to join our group for the last couple of days but has been having problems, ill try sort it out as i know our members will make him very welcome and would be interested in hearing all about his methods.

Hi, If you were to let me have your email address I will send to you details of my methods Re: Dusk training.
Indeed I have just retyped it all for another fancier last night and I can scan it for you.
Malcolm.

Sorry I have not replied sooner, I have just noticed your post.
Regards.

Hi Bricoux,
Thanks for the kind remarks. Many years ago I flew Bricoux pigeons. They were a fantastic family and responsable for the many soft feathered birds of today. Chanco.

Hi Dave,
No not yet, the weather has not been too good most of the days for Dusk Training.
I think when I do start I might go straight to 20 + miles as its getting near to racing now. I am 'jabbing' my birds Sat. morn.
Bye the way, I have several pairs on eggs now so I will let them sit for 10 days or so and then let them go down again for racing.
Malcolm.

by the way malcolm....how far in the moult are they? with them being early bred are they well into the moult ?
i remember years ago when we raced we bred early and when racing started they were fairly well into the body moult...mind you we didnt know about the darkness then, never heard of it and we were among only a few who raced widowhood...

Hi Dave,
Some are on the 4th secondry now. However, I am not going to concern myself too much on that score and they will have to take their chance against the widowers. My main aim is to get them used to racing, those that cannot go will be trained to 50 miles once per week and saved over till next year.
With the price of petrol as it is, it is now becoming expensive and my car is not the 'frugal' type.
Malcolm.

yes malcolm i think you are right to do that as its not worth throwing them away regardless....you will need some as yearlings next season so they will be well schooled for future racing. ive read your car is not very economical, what type of car is it ? mines due for its mot in three weeks time and tax has to be done tommorrow so ill be off into town to dvla to renew....more money!!!

Hi Dave,
Well, I have just bought a new Rdesign Volvo S40 Sport which I like very much.
It has just 400 miles on the clock so probably the petrol will improve later?
It is all money and more money! but I guess I am very lucky to be in this position. However, I have had my years of second hand bangers too and I am no stranger to roadside repairs.......so I know what it's all about.
Today I am more fortunate.

very nice car malcolm....ive seen them and i like them. bought mine when it was a year old from benfield on york road and ive had it two years and it wont be worth a fraction of what i paid for it....altho i think cars such as volvo, bmw, mercs and audi hold their value better than some.

i know this has nothing to do with pigeons ( i can hear members shouting ) so ill shut up about cars now lol!
