Sometime we should calculate how many times the birds climb over hills and mountains.
Like today
- start on top of the Gaspe ridge Quebec
- drop to sea level in Campbellton
- climb the mountains of central NB
- drop down to sea level for the 30 to 50 mile crossing,Bay of fundy
- climb north and south mountain in NS
- down to sea level along Atlantic coast.
I will have to look up the heights.
A lot of climbing, water and three completely different bodies of water.
Tough birds.
When we say we are measured 510 kms from point to point , the birds are not flying that distance in reality. They are flying much further. Today mine did it at a speed of approx 1234 mpm. Flying 510 kms in 6 hrs and 53 minutes. With 13 of 26 on the drop .
The Nova Scotia area is one of the toughest race courses in Canada. Sw.headwinds is the prevailing wind racing from as far as Quebec right on the St Lawrence River. . Only top performing birds can go week to week to finish our schedule. 4 lofts have not missed a race in 7 weeks.Shipping all the birds back to back. Each week. 2 more weeks to go with a 545 km finish in 2 weeks. FYI.
