do tame pigeons race better than not so tame ?. i have found that my tamest pigeons race better than my wild ones, have any members found this out as well or are they just the same. pigeons i have won well with ie the section or the fed have been the ones that eat out of my hand or sit on my shoulder so to me there is a difference

yes ray, i would agree with you and say a tame bird is a happy bird that has trust in their owner and love for the home....that is partly why so many fanciers give peanuts to tame the birds so they are relaxed in the loft and develope love of home and of the fancier.....

I think tameness is a stress factor, the more tame, the less the bird is stressed , wich result also in good health. Logic would be that a tamer bird would be a healthier bird, wich woud be a better racing bird. Chanco, what do you think?

dont agree that a tamer bird will be a better racer , a mate of mine nad a blue and white hen called duchess this bird was the tamest bird you could ever have but hopeless at racing

wont work with all of them, its not going to make a crap bird good, but i think it will give the loft peace and quiet and make the birds more relaxed and happy and also a bond with the owner...its not nice having a loft full of lunatics flying mental when you go in, so come race days if using normal clocking maybe its better for catching and clocking....

I do agree that not all tame birds are good birds, but if you have a good tame bird, results would be exellent

i dare say there is some winners that are wild, buts thats just the way they are....maybe wild because they have something about them....although like niel says, its nice to have a winner that is tame....i hate to handle a bird that is tense and wild, wriggling about and grunting. the best bird i ever have was very calm in the hand with feathers like silk, not over tame or even what id call tame but it was a dream to handle.....it felt likecork in the hand, bouyant....if i could have this bird again id swap all the ones i have in my loft now for it back, it was a 1974 bred bird.......

tried it last year and this year but couldnt get it right....for some reason i cant whistle any more so i tried the whistle but give it up as a bad job.....i suppose its just one of many calls we can teach them and at the moment mine are doing ok just to the corn tin. malcolm will most likely tell you what he uses to control his birds, i already know but ill wait for him to say himself.... |

i dont think we could say without results being put forward niel....methods, management all means nothing without results does it ? maybe if we got everyones racing results with birds sent and vellocities at the end of the season members could have a vote and pick a winner for a bit of fun ?
