hi stuart, are they pot bowls...? i havnt got my bowls in the nestboxes yet but have had something similar with the clay/pots i have in the nestbox, you know the ones which come with red brick/minerals in them........i think its that they attract moisture in this weather which freezes, and then when it thaws a bit you get a damp path in the nestbox, i could be wrong but thi is whats happening to mine.

On the secrets 3 dvd, they show putting two thin wooden batons under the bowl to raise it slightly so air can circulate.... They show you one raised, and its dry, and one directly on the floor of the nestbox and its damp. Don should back me up on this one

hi mate i use the clay nest bowls and yes you will get damp patches the only way to stop this is put some thing under neath them like two battens just to raise them off the floor or even put them plastic grills down

i dont usually put anything under mine either, but having noticed the small mineral pots getting damp i will need to keep an eye on the bowls in future......... although i do wrap my nestbowls in newspaper, so this might soak up any damp maybe.....

The way you can help stop it is the way I have done for the last few years when i put my bowls in I get the round beer mates and put a few drops of criacyot if thats the you spell it to me it keeps moths and lice/mite out as well if your birds are doing that now its because they are sitting tight with the cold weather and its swet that dose it

Dont see why more dont get into it....What I think it is from my point of view as someone young who has joined is that its not known enough..You have to have either seen inside someones loft, or have relatives who keep them, and see the birds to get into it, its not something you just suddenly think about these days as they seem to be behind closed doors if you know what i mean...its not well enough publicised.

yes its a good feeling when someone else does well with a bird you have bred for them........... alex and his dad have been building a team of stock birds to breed their yb team for 2011, and im sure they will do them proud this season.
