we have started to form an extreme distance team, the first youngsters will be bred from these next year so it will be a few years yet before they can prove themselves. these will be based on 3 x Batenburg Van De Merves cocks paired with some Silver Barkers (2 x chequers, 1 x blue) hens.

we have had the Van Reets & Gaby Vandenabeeles win in the past upto 501mile but few and far between.

i do,nt race the distance anymore have,nt got the stock now, wish i had.i might try and get some in again as i liked the distance just as much as the sprint.might look in to getting some more. i know one thing i will want birds to race the distance not ones that are to old for sprint then trying them because they are awaste of time usually

The best long distance birds in SA would be the "putterie" and "silvere toye's" im not into long distance , more sprint to middle distance.

no i would call anything over 550mile as extreme

    basically my thoughts are:-

    sprint upto 200mile
    middle distance 200 to 350mile
    distance 350 to 550mile
    extreme 550mile plus

at the moment im more interested in the short to middle distance with just starting, i think distance racing requires more knowlage and different management compared to short.....and i also think its harder to fly distance racing....so ill stick to short for now until/if i get more experiance racing....
