| you guys all now how new i am, but was reading an article aboat lighting. it read y/bs born jan, at the end of jan give them light from 6am to 11pm after 2 weeks they will start to moult there wing feathers,at the end of april switch off the light when the days are longer, then at the end of june give them light again till the end of the season, some birds will will have moulted 8 - 10 feathers in the wing and are ready.give them light again at the end of june till the end of the season and they will stop the moulting and keep the full feathers. y/bs born later give them light at the end of june as above.they have normaly moulted 5-6 feathers and they will stop moulting i understand this a bit, giving a race bird a full wing and full body feathers. but then i here aboat the darkness. then i get confused |

| hi chris, im new to pigeons but as far as i know the darkness system is supposed to simulate the hours of winter therefor telling the pigeons its time to moult.........as far as i know a dark yb will moult its head, neck and body but not the wing which makes them look like yearlings and gives them a better chance of completing the full yb season, rather than falling to bits if they were moulting naturally. some of our more experienced members will be able to explain better though |
