| what do you guys think of the strains im looking for long distance pigeons iv heard the best is busshearts .and some guys 50 years in pigeons say its all bull shit .it doesnt matter what breed it is ,put them in the basket and see what happens. |

| i think the jan ardens are among the best distance birds at the moment........altho at present im not into distance racing . |

Yes let the basket do the talking but the saying goes horses for courses and pigeons breed for the job are best

| theres a member of my club whos doing well over the chanel with the old strain of kirkpatricks, they are still going strong for him.......... |

| their are many many strains you could go for and buschaerts have been known to do well at some distance races and yes the basket will tell but you have to start somewhere lol go to a distance flyer who has done well in your area as you will know then that the birds you are obtaining can handle the terrain also you would be advised to purchase birds that fly well on the system that you are planing to use ie widowhood or natural.the jan ardens are probably the most fashionable distance strain at the moment but certainly are not a new breed but its like any breed you have good and bad in all and if i was you i would purchase 6 late breds as a base for a distance family from a good local distance flyer and exsplain you are a new starter.by the way i thought you were going into sprint middle distance what made you change your mind |

| hi lofthouse, im just restarting but will be sticking to short/middle distance races for now as distance races need more planning, birds for the job and more experience than i have a t the moment...... |

| you can sprint distance birds but you cant get sprinters to do extream distance
you need the tools for the job
there about but real top distance birds are very hard to find |

| it used to matter one time but not so much now.but i do think when it comes to very hard days you ca,nt beat a old hen sitting 14 day old eggs.i,m going back a few years when we raced the channel so it would have changed now i know |
