had my ybs away agin this morning to 5 miles, took them 55 mins to come home.......im thinking its not far enough and they are ranging off from there before coming home, yesterday i tried exercising them from the loft and then taking them training but they went off for hours and that spoiled my plans.... i did want them to come straight home before moving them further away but im wondering if 5 miles isnt far enough away for them to come straight home, as they will probably range further than this exercising from the loft....... any thoughts anyone ?

i got told by all my club members if my birds fit and ranging for an hour they covering 10miles all around the house so training them at 5 pointless because there not learning nothing so my birds range for over 2 hours then fly around home for a hour so im take them training a week sunday to 20 od miles

Hi David, Im not a believer in short tosses below 10 miles, My birds can see further than 5 miles and range nearly that. I have seen it year after year fanciers locally tossing 2/3/4/ 5 miles and loosing birds, when I go 10 miles I loose no more than they do so tell me the benifit of it??? I go 10 miles twice then 15 twice then 25or30 miles 4 times. my youngsters have now had 11 trainers like this up to 35 miles, and I have lost 11 from 39. First race 95 miles saturday. good luck.

| well i dont think any 2 people have said the same about training y/b and at the end of the day its your choice how far you go and how many times you take them at the end of the day jut dont take risk ive always trained late night and its always suited me each time you train or let you birds out there at risk from hawks now and no one can say birds missing are useless because you dont know what fate the have met along the journey home

think i`ll take them another once to 5 mile then in with the club trainer mondat to pontifract which is approx 12 miles..........i dont htink they are gaining much from these 5 milers but i think i need them coming home before me before i increase the distance, as they are ranging for a good hour i presume they will be going further than 5 miles themselves.
