| not racing widowhood , but roundabout , 12 unconventional boxes 12 in a 6 x 5 ft section and the same size section for 12 hens , this a team of 24 old birds maximising my chances and not wasting a bird. also maybe a spare cock and hen floater in each ection as a motivational tool and fill in . but this year i will only have a handfull tosend as old birds so them sections are for breeding so it will all be natural i guess. until the youngans start. |

david you have hit the nail on the head ideal size is 6-6 x 4-6 for 12 cks i have been to some lofts where the lofts are only 4ft wide and these lofts win out of turn in very strong competision there is a reason for the width of these lofts but thats for another thread sean |

| ian, i have two 6 x 6 sections , both with 12 widowhood boxes fitted.......murray and mills make them smaller than the standard size specially to fit 6 ft sections....... anyone who makes their own boxes can also make them to this size, simply by dividing the 6ft width into three......... your a joiner, i dont need to explain to you do i...... |

| my boxes are 20 wide 20 deep up and over this saves 10 inch on the other boxes standard size that is with a 2 foot dowl partion so the birds a prety much close to me and they dont shoot of the boxes they tend to go back into the deep boxes to be honest you dont want more than 12 cocks to a section although ive seen lofts with 24 to a section but keeping them calm and happy is the main thing |
