| yes maybe ian, ive never tried it yet but ive read that some who have will never do it again because they think darkness contributes to yb sickness......maybe someone might give us their thoughts on it if they have had yb sickness while on the dark.... |

| just out of interest david, I have never been on darkness. However I had youngbird sickness last year, only a few birds off and on over a few months, sometimes only some symptoms for a day or two then it woud go. but it was youngbird sickness for sure , didnt really bother me too much just a pain. |

| unfortunately i would say that 80% of fanciers will have some form of YBS, as soon as the stress takes over (normally when you start training or mix them on first race) bang..... holding there corn, vomiting and some people still race them the week after (was always taught rest is best), then slowly bring them back out the week after that if all is well |

| I've had YBS in one form or another for as long as I can remember, I just hope I get it before YB racing and have time to get them over it. I dont think it harms them now and it seems to be a lot less harsh. Unfortunately not everyone is open about it, I dont mean on here, I mean in general. People think there's some kind of stigma attached to it, one guy in my club said he'd never had it - then went on to say he had it slightly, and that's like your daughter telling you "I'm only a little bit pregnant" |

| On this subject I can say, last year I had it off and on. In my opinion some get it some dont it just the way it is. I am a clean fancier always scraping and I dont think it makes ant differance at all. |

| martyn, do you think they get it from other birds in the basket ? i re-started nearly two years ago and havnt raced or trained my birds, so therefor they havnt been in contact with other pigeons in baskets and i havnt had it.......so what do you think ? |

| It's not a great subject, but here are the details, unfortunately you'll know when/if you get it, it's horrible.
the youngsters character changes overnight, they go quite, there's no cooing, vomit on the perches early in the morning, or when you open up from the dark the other birds dropping down to eat the sicked up food, reluctance to fly, once you've let the out thy wont come back in. water/food retention in the crop. sorry to paint a horrible picture, but I'm telling it how it is, for those that dont know |
