do they go on darkness till after theyve molted, or when in moult

they will moult their body feathers but not flights,thats what the darkness does delays the moult so you can race them further as far as i know.its still new to me as well so if i am wrong i,m sure someone will put me right

Yes will agree with you Ray that is my impretion of the darkness hold the feathers longer

best to know before its started, i thought it was full moult, will they moult flights this year during or after racing

Steve they should get rid of there body feathers so they have a new body but it helps them stay in full wing for longer

pity it wasnt used 20 years ago 4th race hardly any left to race then

But it's a fine balance, bring them of the dark to early they fall a part, keep them on to long and you will have problems getting them through the moult

don its not a fine line theres plenty of leeway i have forgot a few times and its made no different

some people take them of a week before me some the week after so theres plenty of leaway

also have never had problem with yhe moult just leave them alone thro winter

there is no minuses with the dark system apart from youve got the hasttle of doing it in my opinion its all plus people who say they are no good as yearlings are talking rubbish

I agree with you Ian there is loads of positives with this system

But must say have known people having pigeons late and hold fliets

So guys when do you put your young birds on the dark? eg week /month and when do you take them off the dark week/ month.

It's an old video but the ventilation system is brill also

Steve if you look in the pigeon weekly's Boddy and Ridewood are selling DVD's 10 for £99 from a very long list

Amanda it all depends when you part your youngbirds but they finish the darkness on the longest day June time

the darkness is 11 weeks but i start darkness as soon as i put them over and take them off bourges week the longest day of the year
