watched a video on youtube and the fancier digs through the soil in his garden down to the clay.......he dries this out and crumbles it up to give to the pigeons, he says it is full of all sorts of things which benefit the pigeons. anyone do this, or have any thoughts on it...?

I give clay blocks to the birds weekly these are dutch imported in my local suppliers not yer usual ones ...they contain a lot of minerals and trace elements and stop the birds fielding I think the mrs would have something to say if I started tearing up the garden for my supply although I would not mind I have heard of fanciers giving earth from a fresh mole hill but not tried this myself but can see reasoning in it atb

I think ive used the natural clay blocks in the past Darren, and sometimes I mix them into my own "matrix" mixture when I remember.......altho I wouldn't mind giving it a go at digging my own up, see what happens it doesn't come any cheaper does it....

old hand made bricks are fine, you can tell them by the thumb prints, where they have been pushed out of the mould, but do not use modern bricks, they are full of sylicone. |

For what it is worth. Mine field or get a turf in the loft. Fancier I knew never let his field or go in the garden. So anyway, he bought pick-stone, Natural I think, for his birds. Apparently some of the hens pigged out on it. 4 dead in a week. He took it out and no more problems. assume it was like candy for them and they over ate. not being used to it.
