Well winter is a coming. Big rat trapped a week ago, an opossum today. All the critters last year, cats, coons, weasel etc,. Reinforced the loft. However, the loft cannot stand another bunch of chewers and vermin. Built it 8 years back. 24x8 feet. Took me two days. Unfortunately did not have the ready cash so used Aspenite, Chipboard? 5/16ths, instead of plywood. stained it numerous times. Added a new back, Aspenite, but the place is a piece of crap. Pigeons love it because it is home. Enough is enough. Have a friend who will pick up 20 to 30 birds in a week or so. For meat or whatever. So intentions are to keep 16 pairs and build a new loft. Burn this one. New loft size I am thinking of 16x6. Plywood, 1/2 inch. Less space less birds. 10 feet for old birds, 6 for young. Stock birds? Have one old hen from 2006. broke of course and flies out. Robust hen. breeds good, but think her days are coming to an end. Do not need many young birds. Send some to OLR.s is all. Have to bite the bullet and get rid of some very good birds. Oh well. Just bloody hard to pick! Basket as always been my yardstick over peds and eye sign so will have to go that way.

what a shame to have to get rid of decent birds ...is their not a new starter near by or cant you obtain some pallets and strip um down and fix to outside of current boards for extra layer of protection would take a while I know but just tackle one side at a time atb whatever you decide to do

Thanks for the replies. Basically the family of birds are Red Jannssens, van loons, Aardens, with some Paddy cock blood. Most have performed well or they would not be here. Quite a few young and yearlings not raced so will have to go by instinct and hope I get lucky. New loft is a must do. Have a few ideas I want to try. 150 mile trainer today, one loft race. Live results. should be back about 1pm. http://www.wincompanion.com/oneloft/clockings/raceReport.php?skin=canadianiolr&rid=2207Alberta Classic Discussion Syndicate are two of ours.

First two did not count. So 11th and the other one about 89th. But early days. By the way, the velocity is in meters per minute, not yards. So in YPM faster than MPM.
