| As I have said before on here I have thought about grills for years, and after seeing metal grills at Europa classic a few years ago with a large 3ft deep whole below. I must admit I thought lots about it and could see that with that system and with several hundred pigeons in there I could see it would be healthier.
However I never did get any and since then have changed my mind and cannot think of a single good reason why they would be any good. Firstly I did have grills in my nest boxes for a week but found them a pain and looked even dirtier than non at all. Then if you just have them on the floor you will have to keep pulling them up to clean them or it will be a mess. If you have a pit under them or just raise them up you will get lazy and leave the droppings there for weeks, or again you will find it a pain lifting them up all the time, plus the dirty dropping give off gases and smells if left there even more un healthy.
So In my opinion they are a waste of time and will add to your troubles, how easy is it to clean the loft floor, I actually timed my self the other day and with my tall scraper it took me 3 and a half minutes to scrape clean, remove muck and replace floor dressing on the floor of my loft, so its a no brainer and if you haven't got 3 and a half minutes to clean a section floor, pigeons are not for you.
I look forward to hearing others views who have them, but this is how I feel about them. |

| martyn I find some of your comments out of text ...I suffer from a bad reaction to avian precipitins this is the reason for floor grills nowt to do with being lazy ffs man their aint nobody cleaner than me around the loft ...take a look at my loft tour on video.floor grills are for health reasons so to say if I cant be bothered to clean loft floor then pigeons aint for me is a offensive remark so next time please ask for the full facts before you make such a comment ...thanks |

| we got them the full length of the corridor the reason is we have storage cupboards all along the front of the loft inside where we store the corn then if it rains when we first go in the loft we are on grills so clean all the shelfs first before we go in each section where the birds are that way we dont have damp feet going on the floor our corridor is 4 foot wide it takes me 30 second to lift the grills and around a minute to scrape the floor every other day we do sprinkle some sawdust thats been dampened with jays fluid and left to dry
so we do find them usefull |

| I have made my own mind up that in fact floor grills are just as easy to maintain and if kept high enough off the ground the atmosphere is less dusty which is a good thing for me due to my allergic reaction I put kiln dried sand underneath my grills.....I just wanted to know if any of our members are using the rv woodcraft ones as these are their home made brand and seem very reasonably priced provided they are durable enough for the job |

| Sorry oldstrain if my comments offended you...as I said they were just my opinions and not aimed at anyone, I didn't imply you were lazy at all. I just feel that clean is best and that's without question, when I said pigeon are not for you it was generic and not specific. |

| you will find if you have wooden grills or even metal grills in boxes or on the floor that your cocci count in the birds will fall right down , i got a mate who put them in and about a month later had them tested with out given them any thing that the count was nearly zero . |

| I have no grills, and I test my pigeons about 5 times a year with belgica deweered and I will say with all honesty I have never had a cocci count positive in 2 years and I have never treated for it in that time. But I burn the loft out weekly. |

| I use them in the boxes too kev more for cleanliness than anything else as the boxes are still cleaned daily but that's a fair point you make...I phoned pallattts today and ordered 3 floor grills with free postage ,I don't think anyone can really say that using grills is of no benefit its all down to individual preference nowt to do with no brainers some guys have to go to work when its dark and come home when its dark so maybe grills suit them ...many reasons why you may want to use them a lot of successful flyers use them but thanks for the comments lads lol atb |

| what ever you put down for floor covering, when you start to stress your birds with i.e.training-raceing then the cocci count will go up, guaranteed. |
