| roundabout birds should fly well enough around loft without training once season is underway ...I tried it last season and never needed to train ,only before the season started to sharpen them up and I would release cocks and hens 15 mins apart letting the cocks go first one toss then hens next they were together on arrival home though lol but what can you do if you are not their |

| Im on roundabout this year as I have done it in the past, but have been natural for a few years recently...its very simple for me as I have my own system, firstly you can have a round of youngsters from them or not, I don't just pair them up and after siitting 10 days I separate them.
Mine are then allowed to see each other and mix 2 days a week until I start trainning them so they think they are still paired and wont moult. When I say train I mean exercise seriously around the loft 2 hours a day 1 hour morning 1 at night as I never train my old birds any more before the first race, they go off the loft to the first race.
Some have day lofts and night lofts for the birds and rotate them hence roundabout name, I cant as my loft dictates what I do so they mostly go back into the same section after exercise, the week before the first race I take the birds cocks first, hens second 3 times in a row just into the village about 1 mile and the mates are waiting for them in the box, this just gets the mind of them right after a fly they have mates waiting.
Then each week just like the widowhood they go together before the race and the racing partners are their for them on return, if I loose a few which always happens I have lots of spare birds which wont race in the lofts, a few in with the cocks and a few with hens so they will quickly find a new mate.
But for me after all said and done its not the system which makes them win, motivation is a help and the system you use will make this possible, but if everything is right the feeding, the exercise, the health, the loft and good pigeons you will win, you can have 1 of these missing with a perfect system and you will not win. JMO.

| i,ve raced roundabout for years.love racing hens.hate wasting hens .i was going try something last season but i did,nt bother.pairing one cock to two hens so a cock has a hen to come home to every week.as we all know if there's no hen for the cock he,l soon go off form.so it was a bit like roundabout come widowhood if that makes sense |

| Sounds good to me, Im like you hate the fact with widowhood you waste the hens, I always seem to have better hens than cocks anyway. |

| we tried a new way of round about last year but to be fair we had the space to do this we had 3 sections the middle one being the main section ie all birds were paired and raised 1 y/b after that cocks and hens went in a section either side of the main section none seen the middle main section till fridays we trianed 3 weeks before the first race only a few chcuks up to 15 miles no more then the week before the first race training stopped friday we opened both ajoining sections to the main section that week we was first fed in one club and 3 fed in another club both birds being cocks come the 3rd race the hens walked all over the cocks and that continued for rest of the year apart from the odd cock winning now and again so yes the hens are waisted and if used correct are as good if not better than cocks |

| I will agree widowhood is a waste of good hens but if you can utilise them and you get there mind working a good hen will beat the best widowhood cock any day
Look at it this way you save your young cocks for widowhood for the following year
You race the hens through the YB programme and treat them harder than cocks but ask yourself what will give you 110% on a bad / hard day ?????????
Yes the hens |
