| I had a bad 40 mile training toss Thursday from near duxford war museum. I sent 6 and only got 2 on the day with 3 next morning and 1 missing. They had all had 4 shorter tosses and beat me home earlier in the week. I got a call this afternoon from the manager at the museum, he said my pigeon had been in the trees and he'd managed to catch it when it came down. So I drove straight up there to get it. When I got there I picked the bird up and it was gasping for air and making a strange noise every now and again. I can't see that it's had a bang, and I'd say it was 100% fit when I sent it, I had my birds checked by the vet 2 weeks ago and there's no respitory in my loft. I'm baffled as to what's happened. It's been there before but this time never left the lib site. |

| sounds like the ybs got split up fairly soon after you let them go ...peregrine strike maybe ,does not seem like the bird left the lib site does it steve ...is the bird eating ok ,hold the bird near yer ear and listen for a croaking or gargling sound if so I would say respiratory or maybe herpes virus the two are connected according to pigeon vet henk de weerd ,if its just the one bird then phone de weerd and ask for a single injection of spiramycin (£1.50 + p&p ) inject in the morning on empty stomach and don't feed til evening that should sort the yb out ...is the yb home bred ...when you have droppings test done its just for canker ,worms and cocci and a bacteria count...it wont tell you if you have respiratory or salmonella/paratyphoid they need to do a culture test for that which would cost about £80 ...herpes virus or respiratory can come on so quick, alot mistake the herpes in the mouth/throat for canker as the herpes sores do indeed look like canker but on close inspection you can tell its a sore.doxycycline and spiramycin work very well against herpes and respiratory problems atb |
