| once members have finished breeding, what do they feed their stock pigeons on...light feed such as barley mixed with an all round type, or just barley or on an all round mix ?
any thoughts ? |

| Been thinking the same David, something like a depurative mix until they go into a moult then a moulting mix |

| All birds fly out here. So just a cheap mix. Flax and Safflower added Thursday to racers feed. |

| The stock birds just love the freedom. The pied Ganus pigeon cock stayed, doubt if he ever been outside before. Was fully prepared to lose him but fortunately he is now flying with the older race birds. Usually smart ones stay. They were all down on the grass yesterday eating plants (shepherds purse?) and dandelions. I watch the barn pigeons around here and they were fielding in certain spots. Over a 1000 acres just planted, sprayed etc, treated corn and soybean seed. Barn pigeons avoid getting sick. Always alert to hawks etc,. So figure mine are safe enough also. With giving away lots of stock birds and having the loft for them housing about 6 pairs, opened the adjoining door to the young bird loft. They were getting tight for space. 50 in an 8 x 8. So now are all happy in 16 x 8. All trading bugs etc,. Gave the 8 older race birds 30 mile toss yesterday. Headwind. Back before me. So they will go this weekend. Very soon, few weeks will train some of the older young birds. They are looking to mate up anyway. Perhaps let them go in two's and three's as I once did. Cuts down on 'followers'. |
