PostSubject: Do you use a mask   Wed Oct 05, 2016 10:44 pm

Unnoticed my breathing was getting a bit difficult do I've tried using a mask for a couple of weeks.
I'm finding it hard to breath when wearing the mask and have to keep lifting it off my face to take a deep breath, which defeats the object.
The birds don't seem to mind it at all but it's not enjoyable spending any amount of time down the loft with it on.
Does anyone else recommend a certain type which is easier to breath in.
I'm just using the bog standard white ones with the metal strip over the nose.

I have C.O.P.D. boosey, which means my lungs are scared....I should always wear a mask but I rarely bother, mainly because its a pain in the a*se, and it makes breathing harder......the type I have has 2 filters, one on each side and its more trouble than its worth.....another type I have isn't as cumbersome and is similar to the one you are using, except it has a small filter on the front of it, which you might find better.

I smoke a lot. Cheap cigs from the Indian reservation. (no tax.) Cough a bit also but never found it necessary to wear a mask in the lofts. I use Diatomaceos Earth and shavings. We get some brutal winters here but lofts are never closed tight. Birds survive and thrive. A dozen or so wild ones live in an old shed here and do well. But again, cool damp place like the UK I remember can cause respiratory problems, birds and humans. Think the cold winters here wipe out a lot of bugs. 0 F some Winters.

My wife does - I do not but really should!

Are the half masks from the Arco site, that are recommended hot and sticky to wear.  What about changing filters?

After a couple of nasty chest infections,I use one now, especially for cleaning out, when I'm just in and out feeding I don't bother
