Sorry mate - I don't understand!

In one posting you say you have been with pigeon for 60 years - and then you ask 'what puts weight on a bird fast'.

Surly, you know the answer.

yes I think your right there edgie, it is......I think birds which are fed too much corn will be reluctant to exercise/fly, and birds who are hungry will be reluctant to exercise/fly too.

I think once your feeding is right everything is right.

An excess of carbs will put weight on - but also will too much protein David.

The human body will turn an excess of protein into fat far easier than the equivalent of carbo'.  Not sure if the same thing applies to pigeons.

As well all know - Peanuts are full of FAT and therefore carbohydrate.  But not nearly as much as say Rape Seed oil.

Why would anyone want to male a pigeon fat anyway?

When I used to show the giant runts they had to be massive the bigger the better these were shown from Jan to March then the problem was getting the size down so they could breed . I do the same principal to get race birds to do the distance .because without excess weight they have no reserves .it is a matter of finding the ballance .

I put budgie seed in my grit min mix never really thought about using it in any other way but then feeding is something I need to brush up on as you say it is an art and is a big factor and can make all the difference
