I have one 3 ft wide on the front of my stock loft , basically a corridor , the birds spend a lot of time in it in the sunshine and when it is raining I can also put a bath in it so the loft floor don't get wet , you will be better off with one than without . cheers

I reckon any size would benefit non flying out birds, 3 foot well big enough to get the bath in and get out in fresh air, hopefully it gets a bit sun but maybe not if it's behind the loft on north side?
Use mesh small enough to stop sparrows getting in, and if you have a metal grid floor beware the fox can get underneath and take off pigeons toes and feet trying to drag them through. Aviaries can attract cats too. Lot of lofts now got aviary running the full length with trapping and clocking direct to aviary.
Good luck I'm sure your birds will benefit.

so long as they have access to a section too phil 3 ft wide flight will be fine ....but if you are talking just a 3 foot flight and nothing else I would say its not wide enough for them to get back from wind and rain...the natural breeding station houses its birds in flights but they are about 12 foot deep so they can nest back away from direct wind and rain atb

I had limited space due to a shrub my Mrs planted, I came out with a 3ft square aviary but as it went high it was 3ft higher then the shed then ran towards the back of the shed, most tippler flyers use this type, easier to break the birds in as well, only problem I had was with birds in there most of the day chilling in the sunshine they pulled in alot of stays, Advice on aviray Wp_20110

hi phil, good to see you on site again.......hope you can enter the shows when they start shortly. cheers
yes I would agree with other members, any size aviary would be a benefit to them, its better than sat in a loft 24/7, plus as others have said, you can put the bath in for them so it doesn't wet the loft floor.

love the aviary and set up there chris, the aviary is spot on... cheers

phil am I correct in saying this space will be the only area for these birds with no access to a section in a loft at night just the outside space if so I would make a flight and put large nest boxes in with one side closed off so they can get back out of the weather on bad days you could use rabbit hutches but to be honest if they are prisoners the areas too small for me jmo

yes that be ok make sure water can escape then you can hose it down I would use butted slabs that were smooth surfaced as the floor then you can use a hoe to scrape out and hose it down when you want or even put a grill in at a later date if you wanted too
