I used to use them when I had the finches, so long as they're thermostatically controlled they're OK or they will run away with the electric

Electric is very expensive here. Used to use heat lamps but cannot afford it nowadays. 40 watt bulb under the waterers (stock loft) only now. Still freeze occasionally. Still freeze sometimes at 30 below freezing.
Last few years just deep litter. Shavings. All has been well. Have had birds in open lofts covered in snow sitting young. Years ago. Pigeons are adaptable.
BUT..would love a heated loft for my benefit!

As hal says if you use plenty of deep litter they will be fine if you want to winter breed then just extend the daylight hours a
Couple of hours in stock loft but not race team as this will cause problems with moulting. If you are worried about eggs or small chicks getting cold . Wrap the nest bowl in 2 to 3 sheets of news paper for insulation give them plenty of straw so they can make there own nests the felts are a waste of time and cost money. Plus the straw will give them somthing to do .then leave well alone and let them get on with it they know what they are doing no heaters required hope this helps cheers

Not saying I'm right but if you keep a dog outside in a kennel it will grow its fur to suit the winter so why not a pigeon growing it's feathers to suit surly it's better to be featherd well in cold head winds so for me a heater is a no go.

yes ive done that in the past edgie, wrapped the nest bowls in news paper, I think it keeps the heat in and it also makes it easier to clean the bowl out.

Like they say the cold kills everything. Really during the cold your birds should not get I'll we don't treat in the winter. .the summer is a different ball game we get all kinds of problems with heat. ..This might sound daft but I leave my bedroom. Windows open 24/7 and I am never ill or very rarely

Spot on Edgie

If you watch a dog that lives in the house with heating always moulting its hair

But yes a dog kept outside never moults

Not 100% sure but in Belgium during winter a lot of fanciers leave there pigeons in aviary's and get them in at night
