PostSubject: Food for weaned young birds   Wed Dec 21, 2016 4:53 pm

Leading on from a couple of the postings over the past week or so:-

I know it is a bit early, but - What do members give their young birds when they wean them.

I tend to give ours the same V-L Breed and Wean mix as their parents have been on, for the first couple of days, just so they don't have this change to contend with as well.

Then after 3 or 4 days, I start introducing V-L Junior O at say 20% added to their normal Breed and Wean, then 40% and so on.

I find, in this way, the young birds don't 'miss a beat', they don't go backwards as David was saying today in another posting and carry on growing away.

I do mix some chicken rearing pellets in with the birds mix when the babies get to around 7 days old and onwards. I keep the rearing pellets in the young birds food right up the the time I start training.

What are your ideas?
