I am sure we all want to improve the quality of pigeons we race so how do you think you can achieve this ?

1 Buy what you think are better pigeons ?

2 Stay with your best performers ?

3 Dispose of anything that does not perform ?

My answer would be all three combined.

Can you add anything ?

hi caramel, I would say 2 and 3 are the way to go.....theres nothing to say your birds are not as good as others you would buy, they may be decent birds already.

I think if you stick with 2 and 3 you wont go far wrong...

I would say all 3

The reason for saying that is yes get rid of the ones that don't tow the line, but make sure you have given them a fair chance

I have always put best to best for that gene pool

As for buying in pigeons there is always better pigeons out there which can give your own breed that little bit extra, lets put it this way we had a fancier in my own club who had not won a race for 30 years had a few pigeons given to him which he crossed into his own old breed the outcome was

1st Club 1st Worcestershire Fed 1989

I was 2nd Club 2nd Worcestershire Fed 1989

So as they say many roads lead to Rome

3 good points etc I would suggest. Thou No1 for the average working man with a family & morgage etc is in some ways sadly being priced out of the game when looking for top quality birds, unless he is in the know from my perspective Wink Wink.

all three are important but to build a family around your best racers that are producing half tidy ybs has to be the icing on the cake
