The F1 season starts this weekend. Is anyone interested in F1?

I love it - I am really looking forward to seeing the new cars. I hope they will sound like an F1 car now. Last year they sounded like little dinky cars - not F1 at all as far as I am concerned.

I was invited to a Mercedes/Mclaren test day once, and got to stand right next to an F1 car whilst its engine was running - it almost made my ears bleed - YES - that is what F1 cars should sound like - as well as going like hell of course.

Anyway - bring it on F1.

I m not really that into it Phil but for a bit of interest I tried to have a bet on Lewis Hamilton to win the drivers championship and the odds were so bad it wasn't worth it.
You had to put on £3 to win £1.
It looks like it's a one horse race before it's even started.

I'm a fan of most sports, but f1 does nothing for me , sitting watching cars go round and round for lap after lap , can't think of anything worse, well maybe synchronised swimming, it's not like the 60/70s when they had to drive the cars, now it all computer generated, all the drivers do is turn the steering wheel, the likes of Jackie Stewart had to think to win

I totally agree Redrog.

I did 7 years of Motorbike Road Racing. Raced most UK circuits and a few on the continent. I got to 'Home International' level, which meant I could race against some of the big men.

My only claim to fame in the bike world is that I beat Barry Sheene into third place at Donnington Park once. I used to beat his cousin - Steve Parrish - regularly, which he didn't like at all.

I remember once racing at Silverstone in a race called 'The Race of Aces'. I dropped it at Maggots and broke my clutch lever. The pits put out a shout on the public address to ask if anyone had a spare one. Steve lent me one and I beat him using his lever - 'not a happy man he was'.

Those were the days.

renewed respect phil, saw sheene's last race at donnington was on manx Norton in a classic race, only raced on track days and regret never giving it a proper go, but having said that went round the mountain circuit in '75 on old "kettle" and needed change of boxers after so perhaps that was pointer

That's a cynical attitude Mark. But you might be right.

Phil. You used a Triumph? Remember my first bike. Ex WD BSA 500. Girder forks.
15 then. Cost five pounds. After I got married and moved to the Yorkshire Dales bought a slightly less powerful one. It was tough! Bounced it of stone walls on the way back from the local pub. Lambretta Vespa I think.

I once had a Triten - Triumph engine and a Norton frame. I also has a Norton 600 cc side valve. The compression was so high, I used to have to rock it back on a compression stroke and then try to kick it over. The time it whacked me on the back of the leg.

Are those spikes for real? It looks mighty dangerous to me - what if you came of, or went over someone?
