Watchfield In The Vale Flying Club with MB
*Remember there are No Secrets from a Bottle, just Hardwork, Dedication & Determination*
Well folks here we are racing again, we basketed the team for the first race of the Berks, Bucks & Oxon federation programme a perfect trainer for our team, i said in my last write that i was a little down at the hawk strike from the first training toss of 2010, well i did manage to get the team on two other training spins out to 20mile and again both with birds split (a sure sign of a BOP attack).
So training has not gone to plan, as i would normally like to get at least 10 to 12 training spins into them before the first race just to create or refresh the break points etc. So i decided to use the club BBO first race as a perfect trainer for the team, the weather forecast is for good warm weather and the distance is only approx 50mile so decided to enter the whole team (mob flyer i know).
All the team are sitting eggs between 8 to 12 days and are in lovely condition so they should have no problems with this trainer/race, worst case scenario if they don’t break they will have the additional fly of 30mile or so to Reading and 30mile back so should learn their lesson the hard way. I started the new racing feed system for this race to get them used to it, so will at least get a feel for how they handle it dependant on if they are the first returnees which will have flown approx 50mile or the later ones which will no doubt return from the M4 Reading area which could have flown double this distance.
Tonight i will remove all the hens into their own sections, tomorrow i will throw all eggs and turn the bowls and we will then be on the Widowhood system, cocks in the front sections and hens behind but all trapping through into the same central trapping bay and walk through into their own sections.
Dont forget the WESSEX COMBINE races for 2010, which will be a combined event featuring the Berks, Bucks & Oxon federation, Wiltshire federation, Solent federation and Dorset SR federation, which could see in the region of 5000 birds competing for the honours. The race programme consists of 3 old bird races and 1 young bird started on the 5th June (marking Thursday) race from Messac, 26th June (marking Wednesday) race from Niort, 9th July (marking Tuesday) race from Bergerac and finally 11th September (marking Thursday) race from either Guernsey/Lessay.
Mum & Dad also start their racing season this weekend racing with the Merseyside federation and the Mid Cheshire federation up there in the sunny North West. So would like to wish Mum/Dad, Kenny and Charlie the best of luck for 2010.
Race day, Well the birds were liberated at 10.00am in no wind, but a north east blowing at home, we pencilled in an eta of 11am for this short sprint from Wincanton, we were watching the skies and the 5 buzzards which were enjoying themselves when we spotted our first two arrivals, these came on a good line and after a couple of quick laps were soon down and in the loft to be recorded at 11.01.40 & 11.01.50, we didn’t wait long for our next arrivals which came spinning from the back of the loft (obviously drifted a little with the convoy) to be recorded at 11.03 and another 2 at 11.04 then we had a break till 11.09 when we got another 3 and this continued at a decent rate till 11.30 then very gappy from then with the later ones which obviously made a bit of a mistake and followed the convoy and had to work hard to get back home.
At the club that night, the result was 1st - M/M M&C Brown velocity 1363.1, we saw home a yearling Blue Gaby Vandenabeele cock racing home to 10 day old eggs. 2nd - M/M M&C Brown velocity 1359.4 with a yearling Cheq Gaby Vandenbeele cock a winner from Seaton last season, racing to 10 day eggs. 3rd - M/M R Titcombe velocity 1352.1, Roy & Shiela recording a very good 3yr old Dk Cheq Busschaert cock through Stud Topper lines raced on widowhood, this cock a winner from Lulworth last season, now to me this was without a doubt the best bird on the day and deserves the credit for this as most weeks there are some fantastic performances put up by birds which because of wind, drag etc don’t get the recognition, well no doubt over the course of the season i will upset some people/winners by my statements made and speaking my mind, but we all know deep down that on some occasions the best bird is not necessarily the winner, fact!!. 4th - M/M M&C Brown velocity 1324.4, with a 2yr old Blue Gaby Vandenabeele Hen racing home to 10 day eggs, 5th - M/M M&C Brown velocity 1322.7 with a yearling Cheq hen and 6th - M/M C Aldridge & Son velocity 1319.1 with a yearling Mealy Hen this one also a winner last year. So there we have it, the first race out of the way and 3 x previous winners positioned in the first six club positions, cant argue with that.
