| Yes the red had two eggs but I stepped on one. 3 more pairs of reds on the floor, hatched and banded. 15 boxes and they choose the floor. Good in a way. They will eat etc right away. Cocks will feed any that want fed. Never had a scalping problem yet. DE powder and straw on top. Dry deep litter. Looks unsightly but works well for me. |

I'm thinking of putting a couple boxes on the floor with hay. I've already got two pair hanging out on the floor like they want to nest. Same as last fall. Hal, I was told to use our local hay, instead of straw. Somethings about mites in the straw? Ever hear of this? |

| not heard of that here Rom but we dont have bears either i dont like hay goes flat and sweaty. |

| No mites in the straw. Use DE. Hay is not good. Many years since I tried it though. |
