5 weeks to first race. Rain and wind most of the week. Nothing out for weeks. So opened up the yearling loft. They are still getting used to it but flew quite a while then down on the ground for whatever they pick up there. Then flying again. They are not sure of the speed trap but most came in for peanuts. Some still out.7.07 pm here. One dead hen in there. Could not pass an egg apparently and it broke before it got out. First time I have seen that. Tomorrow young birds. Next day older birds. They are in a different loft also. So new to them. Then stock birds. Another new loft for them to go in to. Few days then all out together and see how and were they trap. Not the young birds with old. Next year old and young same lofts. The numbers will be way down. Due to racing, hawks and culling. Cannot give the numbers the attention they deserve right now. Aiming for 12 pairs racing. 20 young birds. 6 pairs stock. Ex racers. 50 birds total. With young birds included right now have about 140. Drastic measures needed.
