ive heard some feed "farm corn" which is cheaper than the branded mixes, also barley etc , which is a cheap corn compared to pre mixed branded corns......also there are supermarket products which some give their birds, so all in all there is a cheaper alternative, but ive never done it, partly down to laziness I suppose, its easier to go to the corn shop and buy a branded mix, and partly because I don't know enough about buying "form corns" etc.

Farm corn are unpolished grains. Companies buy in bulk, delete the dirt etc, and they come out looking clean and polished. The value of the niuition does not change.

Years ago these one lofter were fed the most expensive graim available. The one lofters. I flew and won on cheap mix 40 miles farther. Same weather.

True the nutrition factor may be the same Hal I suggest but the cost factor thou can at times, maybe be a worrying factor .

Nice one Hal, just proves that it is what you put the fuel in that counts not what the fuel is.

Many fanciers make the sport expensive using numerous artificial commercial products instead of keeping to nature.

In the 1950s many fanciers used only the very basic feed, nearly all straight from the farm, no polishing etc;

Farm beans, dog tooth maize, barley, peas, rice, seed from the thrashing machines etc; etc.

irrespective of what some may say the pigeons of that era put up better performances and more than once (not the one offs of today when a fancier sends over a hundred pigeons and happens to win the race, if he had just left that one out he would have been no where etc;)

The sport need not be expensive if approached in the right manner.

It would help if clubs made participating cheaper by charging just exactly what it costs to send the birds to a race and had pools for those who want to fly for money.

Fanciers make the sport seemingly expensive by opting for matters outside what the sport is basically able to offer as a meaningful and enjoyable sport.

have to say I am fast becoming aware that the expensive mixes are no better than a good cheap one been using the country wide stuff this year buying a few separate ingredients and a base mix ...much cheaper on the pocket and birds look and perform just aswell on it

Base ingredients are cheap. It is what the fuel is. More protien add peas or safflower. Safflowr is not as cheap but birds love it. Small amount is all that is needed. Then only occasionally.

True MAGIC little tale I suggest. Any chance thou O/S you think of all feds etc following the example set there with Hal's little champ, when writing their diplomas out as such.

not with our lot anyway oz you get yer open card with the result on and that's yer lot ...no spill but they do feel nice in the hand slightly better quality than yer club cards

Not here either O/S I suggest just been out today to my secretarys place to pay my subscription etc. My tight a**e Fed slugged me an extra 60 odd dollars on top of the normal 200 dollars for being late & they wonder why the sport is dying .

for being late paying, you get charged extra ..........

even the pigeon club is fining us now............

Late, late by all accounts O/S new rule brought in I'm while I was having a year off with the Rota virus issue here, that I knew nothing about etc. Told in secret, it is the new way to encourage new members as such No problems thou for me I will just miss a race or two to cover the extra cost & even thou they think their being rather smart with the new move, they loose out in the long run     with me.

Knackered, you should have been made aware of any proposals by written notice prior to the AGM at which the changes were made, and they could only be made at an AGM.

Also the result by means of an up date of the Clubs Rules, in book form or addition to the Rule book.

Funny old game, the sport is in dire straights and the idiots want to make matters worse.

Agm/rule book etc. Come on down Misty & I will show how the rule book can be manipulated by those turning the pages there to their own desires sadly, unfortunately at times    .

Can understand where you are coming from, Knackered, the RPRA Council ignore the Rules if and when they choose and the ordinary fancier does nothing until it actually affects them directly, I have tried for over 45 years to change matters but apathy amongst the general fanciers prevents anything being done.

There is a clique within the RPRA that has been fostered over the past 45 years who feel beyond question choose how despicable they act and the ordinary fancier is not worried until it personally affects them, it does not matter to them how others are treated just as long as they are alright.

I can see no improvement until those responsible for the state the sport finds it self in are removed permanently.

Trouble with old age Misty I suggest we have seen what devious minds certain people have in the pigeon  caper etc when pushing their own barrow for at times there own self interest as such.
