Winter is a coming. What to keep or get rid of is not a problem. Have room for all. But will cull some obvious ones, strays etc,. . No loft demolitions. For next year. What do I hope to achieve? As with many older folk on here have won my share. 80 miles to 600 miles and in betweeners. Winning money is not a big factor. So think will concentrate on oddballs. White pigeons, feather foots, odd colours etc,. Wonder if they can hack it? Oh shit, assume so why they are here still! Colours should not matter but heck! Pink pigeon (obviously unknown gender) may stir things up a bit!.  Instead of pooling by ring number, go by colour?
Sorry folks just yapping. Witnessed a bad car accident today. Have not seen that
many dead folks in years. Reality check. Delete this post if inapproriate.

Just proves Hal, you never know what is just around the corner.

If you do not try something then how on earth could you know the results, give em all a chance, if only the humans called ideal for whatever were given a chance ???. The most lasting inventions have come from the most unlikely places and often by chance.

Regards.

Another change day or so. Usual is for young birds to be moved to old bird lofts after culling. Then break them and so on to the different lofts. Lofts now cleaned. Shavings and Stable Boy down. Some young bird eggs to dump. Speed trap down on one loft and bobs instead. Then close up young bird loft. Old and young can pick and choose from 3 lofts. They decide their loft. All will fly out together. Room for all. Basically open lofts. Raptors are arriving frequently. Prior to migration. So be it. Feral pigeons survive them. Lose some to the raptors I lose some. Weather cooling down rapidly. Young are flying good! Two hours. Old ones less time. Flagging pigeons I have never done. If they do not want to fly why force them? If they are fit they will fly. Young bird loft will house stock hens in a week or two. Apart from that the race birds will be out as much as possible. Years ago they flew out in snowstorms if they wanted to. Love to win races but desire is no longer as great as years back. So different approach next year. Different methods etc,. Ummm..must be an age thingy!

One could argue till dooms day, but with a completely open loft the pigeons will always be fit, it is a big mistake to think we know better than the pigeons regarding when to venture out, mine did exactly as they wanted and I never argued with them because I knew I would be on a loser.

The further you go from nature the more problems you will have.

The state of the present day pigeons over all health is evidence to that effect.

It would be foolish to think that every fancier does not want to do well and win races but how is just as important.

May be initial problems Hal, but eventually all will find their place in line with nature and will live happily ever after, HOPEFULLY.

Good Luck.

Birds have the run of three lofts now. Much squabbling and excitement. Few fights. No major problems here at 1.45 pm.
