| Looks like a day indoors for you hal? That looks severe, we're having a mild spell, not even a frost for a few days now. |

| How the Hal do you contend with those conditions?.
Have you got your own generators in case of problems?????.
If we had anything bordering on those conditions the fairies here would indulge in mass emmigration.
Take my hat off to you Hal., but for heavens sake keep well wrapped up you are no spring chicken.
Regards.

| Also my type of loft, Hal, no possibility of the pigeons not being able to recognize the individuality.

| Yes light bulbs under waterers. However, ice brought down power lines. 3 pm to midnite no electricity. Parrafin lamps and propane camp stove and candles. Cold. Up to minus 4 today, wind chill of minus 20 or so. Dogs go out and slide cross yard. Plus 3 for tomorrow forecast. As said before, no more Winter breeding for me. Race birds still not interested in laying. Almost a month together. Smart! Wild pigeons in sheds beginning to nest though. Wind 80 km. |

| Roads are ok around here. Driveway ice sheet as around lofts. Heck of a time stapling plastic on the outside windows too much wind. Without the plastic living room gets down to 10 with heaters going. Oh well, another Canadian January day. Here by choice anyway. Grin and bear it. (No other option!) Traffic jam on the highway here. 3 cars following a tractor!! |

| Basically we choose our countries. Having travelled a lot my country of choice was Aussie. However got married. So other person to look after. Then 2 kids. Many jobs trying to get money. Wimpeys, iron foundries etc,. Then farming. Livestock. Dairy cows. Then got good at it. Then answered an ad for a dairy herd manager in Bermuda. Portugese guy owned it. Got the job. I did very well. Guy screwed every one who worked for him. Portugese guy as was all his workers. Guy from the US was on holiday there. Toured the operation. Was impressed with what I had accomplished. Offered me a job in the US. New York state. Accepted. One step closer to Aussie. Arrived there and managed the dairy herd. With knowledge obtained in the UK improved the herd and the profit. Was waiting for status. Goverment. 2 years all that was needed was a signed form from my employer. He then informed me that if I did not sign a contract of employment with him for 3 more years he would not sign it. I am not a person to be blackmailed!! I was not far from the Canadian border so went there and talked with the border people. Explained the situation. They said if we let you cross you cannot get back in to the States. So we are refusing you entry at this time. However. Call us tomorrow. Or whenever you have a guarantee of employment. They gave me a local newspaper. Dairy farm worker needed . In the ads. Close to the border in Canada. Called the guy. Met at the border station was hired and all papers signed. 2 weeks later crossed the border with wife and 2 kids. In a Buick Le Salle. All possesions in the trunk. Big car. Worked there for two years then went on to bigger operations. With 2 more kids! Canadian Winters..ummm. In the first two years the guy I worked for in the US showed up twice. All sorts of offers, incentives to go back and work for him. Nope! Once bitten twice shy. No closer to Aussie by much. Then got bogged down. 4 kids, average income had to stay and work it out. Went in to the hog farming aspect. Learned quick. Common sense really. But more money. Eventally after 46 years here got to be a Canadian. Passport and all. Aussie now is on the back burner. One lives and adapts to ones situations. Climate or whatever. Oops! Yapped too long!! |

| Saw when Hal posted regards the changing elements of Canada. Very true. It is a vast country, that's for sure. Now Australia has more I thing. The second driest place of earth. Fires and floods and much more.
In realism many call their 'Homelands' ;Gods Country.
When I look EVERY week at the crises all around and world wide I think in them terms, and wild life dangers etc. We have been blessed in the U.K. Snow! The beast from the EAST! I was on holiday in a log cabin on the south coast! it is / was nothing more than a sneeze. Heatwaves... never really had one. Water crises, food shortages... Hunger! When I see children scouring land tips combatting the gulls and rats... no problems. Bombings make me cry, literally! Not for me / us, but the women and kids blown to bits and buildings no more than desolate waste! When I see beggars on their carboard boxes and see them go home to nice houses.... Yes I dislike the Tories with a vengeance I guess... well did do. When I see the atrocities the did and caused I'm ashamed to be 'British'! No I / we don't reap the benefits of the raping and pillaging … it never comes down to us. We are, were no more than numbers... in a great 'God's) country. |
