| Think the best way is to watch the wood pigeons, pair up the same time as they do.
All the shinanings do is confuse matters.
There can only be one wnner in a race if that is your sole concern, and all the losers whose fanciers have spent hours pondering systems and flights of fancy will have wasted their time, and in all probability the winner just as likely to have been kept naturally.

| ive noticed natural young birds can still beat darkness ybs racing, darkness isnt a magic potion that automatically makes them winners ....i think the main benefit in the dark system is that dark birds will get to race the full yb program whereas naturals usually wont due to moulting ....... |

| Some truth in that David and that is why I think we race at the wrong times of the year.
A wood pigeon moults so that it is in the very best feather condition and with plenty of fat to see it through the Winter, it spends the summer months close to home breeding, their young also are in the best condition later in the year to see them through the Winter.
Food is often far away in the Winter making it necessary for them to be able to fly longer distances to feed than in the summer months.
Often far better racing weather later in the year.
Gone through all this years ago.
Suggesting re think on when racing would be best.
Regards.

| Yes have heard of pulling flights. No intentions of doing that. The light system I used worked for early breds and later breds. All flew the whole program when fit. |

| I can see and understand both what Hal says David and others, if it works for you then you would be foolish not to use it.
When I had prisoner stock birds I varied the time I paired them up.
The open loft stock birds bred when they wanted, sometimes in Winter.
That is one reason I would never train, had youngsters all ages (not many) which I could use throughout the racing season at different times regarding the moult and fitness etc;
Always had one or two in the right condition at the right time.
Regards.

| I hate the dark system but in my opinion you have to be on it to compete the full programme. In the old days ybs went all the way yes dropping to bits but they couldn't compete with darkness at 300 miles I know |
